Jonathan Burack is a former secondary school history teacher who has for the past 23 years designed and published history curriculum materials for secondary school students. He conducts staff development workshops training history teachers to incorporate primary sources into their teaching. He has worked actively with the Wisconsin Association of Scholars, a chapter of the National Association of Scholars. He is a member of a small group of social studies mavericks called "The Contrarians," contributing a chapter to that group’s Fordham Institute report "Where did Social Studies Go Wrong?"
