Military leaders say budget caps are crippling armed forces

Military Readiness Military officers from four service branches appeared before Senate Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness and Management Support to discuss the state of military readiness, and how it had been affected by budget reductions due to sequestration. Testifying were vice chairs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with the assistant commandant of the Marine Corps. Some of the areas discussed included the state of modernization programs, recruitment and retention issues, diminished capacities to train pilots, and the effects of the federal hiring freeze
