MY TAKE ON BIBI'S SPEECH...TOO LITTLE, TOO BLAND, TOO SAPPY

I am swamped this morning with e-mails virtually in a swoon about Bibi's speech at the UN. Sorry not to share your euphoria folks. My own statements underlined. In the spirit of confession I must tell you that I was once summoned to the Regency Hotel at 5 in the morning to help prepare then Prime Minister Shamir's forthcoming speech to the President's Council. He was very kind, very polite and told me that he rejected every word I wrote....so.....nonetheless, here is my take....
"This is a travesty ...Have you no Shame?" should have been addressed specifically and only to the members of the UN...that dwindling few...of democratic western nations who have blandly accepted the blood libels hurled at Israel...He should have omitted his wrath for those whose own nations are barbaric, medieval, dictatorships that promote slavery, famine, genocide and diurnal brutality who have the effrontery to sit in judgement on Israel.
Furthermore, his statement " I am proud that my country Israel is at the forefront of these advances – by leading innovations in science and technology, medicine and biology, agriculture and water, energy and the environment. These innovations the world over offer humanity a sunlit future of unimagined promise." should have been followed by:
"therefore, we do not ask recognition of our right to exist in a world that we make brighter. We do not accept any challenge to our sovereignty and our democracy. We ask only to live in peace within secure borders in a dangerous neighborhood that lusts for our suicide. We will not do it. And remember that if Israel were to be vanquished, God forfend, the rest of the civilized world will soon follow. We have the same enemies."
His words: In 2005, hoping to advance peace, Israel unilaterally withdrew from every inch of Gaza. It dismantled 21 settlements and uprooted over 8,000 Israelis. We didn't get peace. Instead we got an Iranian backed terror base fifty miles from Tel Aviv. Life in Israeli towns and cities next to Gaza became a nightmare. You see, the Hamas rocket attacks not only continued, they increased tenfold. Again, the UN was silent.
Finally, after eight years of this unremitting assault, Israel was finally forced to respond. But how should we have responded? Well, there is only one example in history of thousands of rockets being fired on a country's civilian population. It happened when the Nazis rocketed British cities during World War II. During that war, the allies leveled German cities, causing hundreds of thousands of casualties. Israel chose to respond differently. Faced with an enemy committing a double war crime of firing on civilians while hiding behind civilians – Israel sought to conduct surgical strikes against the rocket launchers. "
Good words....should have been followed by:
"And you..condemned Israel. You have made hypocrisy the cornerstone of this institution. Many years ago Chaim Herzog stood in this hall when this assembly endorsed the "Zionism is Racism" resolution. He stood before you and tore the resolution in half saying "I reject this resolution" and he was followed by American Ambassador Patrick Moynihan who made a stirring speech against it. Ladies and gentlemen I representing the noble nation of Israel tell the Security Council and all those who endorse it ...."We reject the findings of the Human Rights council." And to all of you who have acquiesced in this slander I have nothing to say."
And to the Palestinian Arabs who speak of peace in one language and jihad in another: who teach hatred in their books, and sermons, and media I say: You rejected autonomy which made your lives more prosperous and offered you freedoms of religion, media, education and assembly....those freedoms which are unavailable to you in any of those Arab League nations that cry caterwauling tears about your hardships. You chose terror and incitement and your Arab brothers and this institution gave you nothing but perpetuation of squalid refugee camps and lip service.
We invite you to open dialogue and participation with no outside brokers. Together in good faith we can arrive at an accommodation which gives you ultimate self expression compatible with utmost security for the State of Israel. We can accept nothing less.
