White House Daily Briefing At the top of the daily White House briefing, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin spoke about a series of sanctions levied against Venezuelan Vice President Tareck El Aissami, who was found by U.S. investigators to be involved in a multinational drug trafficking operation. Then, Press Secretary Sean Spicer answered questions primarily related to the resignation of General Michael Flynn as President Trump’s national security adviser. Mr. Spicer insisted the president asked for the resignation because he did not trust General Flynn as an aide due to his misrepresentations to Vice President Pence of his conversations with Russian counterparts during the presidential transition period, and not because of the conversations themselves.
