The leader of Venezuela, hostile to American interests and willing to impose restrictions upon the personal and political freedoms of his people.  Under Chavez, Venezuela has not only become much more autocratic than in the past, but has exported his view of revolutionary politics to other South and Central American nations and has forged ties with Islamist groups in the Middle East and Iran.
