Kurds
An ethnic group that lives primarily in northern Iraq, southeastern Turkey, and eastern Syria, that has often been persecuted because of its minority status in all of these countries. Saddam Hussein was particularly harsh to his Kurdish population, attacking and killing many of them with chemical weapons.
