Border agent brutally murdered with rocks near Mexican border – but here's the question I want answered

by LTC ALLEN WEST (US ARMY RET) November 22, 2017

It's time to stop the obfuscation regarding securing our southern border and taking action to stem the flow of illegal immigrants. We must never forget the death of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, and sadly another Border Patrol agent will miss roll call. There will be an empty chair at Thanksgiving this year for an American family, and it just does not have to be so.

As reported by Fox News, "Illegal immigrants reportedly assaulted two U.S. Border Patrol agents with rocks, killing one and seriously injuring another Sunday near the southern border with Mexico. Details around the attack remained murky Monday, however, an FBI spokesperson said Rogelio Martinez and his partner were not shot and a National Border Patrol Council official told KTSM the assailants were "undocumented immigrants" who used likely used rocks to bash the agents.  "We strongly believe rocks were what was used," NBPC Vice President Art Del Cueto told KTSM.

The FBI had taken over the investigation into the death of Martinez, 36, and the injuring of his partner, who was not identified. The two were patrolling the Big Bend Sector of Texas when the attack occurred. "They were not fired upon," said Jeanette Harper of the FBI's El Paso office. "There are so many different agencies working together that we need to come together and develop a timeline."

Martinez, who was from El Paso and had worked as a border agent since August 2013, died of injuries sustained while responding to "activity" near Interstate 10 in the Van Horn Station area, according to a news release from U.S. Customs and Border Protection. He was on Interstate 10 near Mile Marker 151 when the incident occurred, KFOX14 reported. At some point, Martinez's partner called for help, saying he and Martinez had both been injured, investigators told KFOX14."

I've ridden my motorcycle down through the Big Bend Mountains and seen just how challenging that terrain can be for our Border Patrol agents. I must however, ask, do progressive socialists consider a rock a weapon? Perhaps they'll be calling for rock control?

Now, the obvious point I want to convey is this: what are the rules of engagement for our U.S. Border Patrol agents? Let me give you an understanding of where I'm coming from. Back in Iraq in 2003, little jihadis would use rocks and slingshots to target our vehicle commanders who were often exposed in the turret as they traveled in convoys, or out on mounted patrols. We had one of our staff sergeants attached to us from a M2 Bradley variant Linebacker Air Defense Artillery Battery struck in the side of his head by one of these projectiles. We changed our rules of engagement allowing troops to fire a warning shot at anyone aiming any type of weapon or projectile towards them. The behavior stopped, no one was killed or shot...but most importantly, our troops were protected.

We must do exactly the same for our Border Patrol agents and enable them to protect themselves in any confrontation involving any object that can be used as a weapon against them. Our southern border is not secured and we need a laser-like focus. Yes, a border security wall is vital, but we also need to support those men and women with commonsense rules of engagement to combat the threats they face.

The border isn't just about poor innocent people trying to enter the United States, ILLEGALLY, in order to find work. We have human smugglers who are armed, operating to infiltrate these individuals. We have drug smugglers providing the poison that's killing our young people. And we have the infiltration of Islamic jihadists, enabled by the drug cartels infiltrating into our country.

It's time we recognize these threats and stop playing games with the lives of our Border Patrol agents due to insidious ideological agendas. I'm of the belief that any federal legislator or elected official who is against constructing a border security wall should have to spend a week down on the border on a patrol...preferably at night. Let them see and experience first-hand what's happening.

It's very easy to sit back in their nice warm confines and advocate for sanctuary city and state policies, not having to fear any consequences or ramifications. I would say, drop them off on the Mexico side of the border and let them experience the wanton lawlessness, corruption, and violence occurring there.

We shared with y'all a story earlier this year about how Mexico is a more dangerous area than the combat zones of Syria and elsewhere when it comes to deaths. There's no debate about the fact that the Islamic jihadist group, Hezbollah, supported by Iran, is working with the Mexican drug cartels to infiltrate terrorists into the United States. There are staging areas such as in Tampico, Mexico and money is being paid to these corrupt Mexican officials and cartels to forge documents and usher this evil across our border. Places like Juarez City are dangerous launch points from which Islamic terrorists are funneled into our country, and this is not secret intelligence, but rather open source. It has also been the case for quite a few years now...as we shared with you the USSOUTHCOM J-2 (Intel Officer) assessment on numbers of individuals detained from countries listed on terrorist watch.

How well are our Border Patrol agents armed as they undertake this incredible mission against a foe that often possesses heavy weapons? is it fair to our U.S. Border Patrol agents to just be out on patrol in SUVs, why not better fortified Hummer vehicles, or possibly early generation Stryker vehicles? Needless to say, if you haven't been paying attention, there has been an increase of IED usage in Mexico...along with beheadings.

Now, of course the progressive socialist left will just disregard everything mentioned here. You know their line, "I do not agree with your facts." They'd much rather support an ideological pursuit of open borders and embrace illegal immigration, and all its woes. They couldn't care less when our law enforcement officers and civilian Americans have their lives taken by someone here illegally. God knows that the left said very little about the heinous loss of life of young Kate Steinle...and tragically, the GOP has done nothing to pass Kate's Law...why? Why do we value criminal illegal immigrants over the lives of law abiding American citizens? And please, spare me the drivel, because that's quite apparent when one analyzes Chicago, Los Angeles, and elsewhere.

May God bless and welcome the spirit of Rogelio Martinez and may his family find some semblance of peace and solace at this time. But, at some point in time, God please deliver to the United States, men and women of courage, commitment, and conviction in our halls of government. For as Alexander the Great once quipped, "I would not fear an army of lions led by sheep, but I would fear an army of sheep, led by a lion."

We have too many sheep masquerading as leaders in America. Time to send them home and not allow them to be in positions of power able to determine the policies to keep us, the American people and our law enforcement officers, safe and secure.
