It is with a heavy heart that FSM shares with our readers the passing of a true patriot.  John Dendahl, an eloquent and combative conservative who was once a candidate for governor of New Mexico, writer and state Republican Party chairman, died Saturday in Colorado after a brief illness.  It seems impossible that John's unbridled energy, youthful spirit and keen, lively intellect is silenced forever.  John, who led the Republican Party of New Mexico for nearly a decade and was known for his fearless challenges of Democrats, was 75.

John Dendahl was part of the FSM family and wrote articles for our site since 2008.  A fine athlete who competed in the 1960 Winter Olympics as a member of the United States national ski team, John was as fearless in his work and political thought as he was in his downhill runs. A friend said, "In a vast forest of pygmy scrub oak, a wonderful and sturdy redwood has suddenly fallen. I pity anyone who attempts to justly eulogize John Dendhal, in the span of a single funeral service."

We couldn't agree more.  We say good-bye to John now with a great sadness and sense of loss.  His cheerful and pleasant demeanor will be sorely missed for a long, long time.  Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends.
