Save Our Children

by LEE ELLIS December 19, 2012

How many slaughters of children and others in schools, malls, churches et al. do we have to suffer before the truth behind these killings is really discussed and tracked down to the one genuine cause?

No, it has nothing to do with weapons as all the pundits, politicians and press immediately claim. Taking guns or other weapons away is not the answer. The real reasons have been hidden behind "political correctness" for decades. The actual cause has been due to the removal of many sanatoriums for the treatment of various nervous or mental disorders.

How did this come about? In 1948, Hollywood started to release films suggesting that insane asylums and sanatoriums were evil institutions that should be abandoned. Remember Olivia de Havilland in "The Snake Pit"? Many other such films followed, such as "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", and the public image of asylums changed.

Young men with mental problems and their parents were said to be victims rather then patients, no different from physically ill people who could recover at home by taking a few pills daily.

So, in the early 60's, people deemed to have a form of insanity, whether called Schizophrenia, Aspergers Syndrome or some other unknown mental disorder were all released from the so-called "wicked asylums" and sent home or to the streets as long as they (or their parents or guardians) promised that they would take their medicine daily. All would be well.

But there's the rub. Most former patients stopped taking their meds or switched to drugs that gave them highs but did nothing to stop the ravages of hidden voices or torment inside their distressed brains.

But those demented brain cells were still sending false signals to tortured heads...instructing some to kill or destroy all those imaginary humans or objects that were causing this anguish. After the Sandy Hook killings, Mary Ellen O'Toole, PH.D and an FBI profiler, also author of the book "Dangerous Instincts" studied all the reports of the Medical Examiner who had personally examined each precious child that had been shot to death, most with four or more bullet holes in each. Mrs. O'Toole said that the shooter had seen these children not as living human beings, but rather as mere objects of his hatred.

The clamor for more gun control after each shooting has some merits to it in wanting all vendors, including Gun Shows, to obtain background checks as part of the sale. But guns are not the real killers; demented minds are! Such a mind will use any available weapon that one can obtain. Home-made bombs built, unknowingly in the parents basement, have been used in the past, and in Russia last year, lethal gas was piped into a school killing some hostages.

To stop the killing of children in the future, we must treat those who suffer from brain wounds the same way we treat anyone who is bleeding from body wounds ...take them to a hospital, a mental health clinic to be treated. Yes, but many say, "but if they refuse to go, we can't force them." Thus, we must change our attitude and our laws regarding mental health disorders. It has to be regarded as a threat to all humans. Just as an ordinary suspect of a potential crime is investigated by police and can be arrested; suspected victims of a mental disease must also be checked out by psychiatrists and, if mentally sick, the patient must be transferred to a mental hospital for cures or to a long-term mental facility for their own and our safety. Once a patient is treated in the same manner as a victim of a highly contagious disease ...quarantined!

Only then will our children be safe in their schools, malls and churches!
