Ten Years After 9/11: Still Coloring Obama Uninformed On Islam!

There is a tragic irony that exists upon the tenth anniversary of the cowardly 9/11 attacks conducted by 19 Islamic terrorists claiming 3000 American lives: President Barack Obama’s national security policy guidelines fail to heed a lesson delineated in a children’s coloring book just published in recognition of the anniversary date. What the latter makes abundantly clear, the former still chooses to obfuscate.
When Obama came to office, he chose to play down the threat to US national security by issuing guidelines that failed to call that threat what it really is. In deference to “moderate” Muslims, he mandated there be no nexus between “terrorism” and “Islam.” Thus, there was to be no reference to “Islam,” “Islamic extremism” or “jihad.” Obama believed, as between offending moderate Muslims and leaving the American public in the dark about the true source of the threat to our security, the former should be given more weight.
Obama’s national security team remained true to these guidelines as reflected in the first Quadrennial Homeland Security Review (QHSR) during his term delivered to Congress. In describing the threat with words such as “terrorist” (66 times) and “extremist” or “violent extremist” (14 times), it mentioned “al-Qaeda” only five times. Someone new to the planet reading the QHSR in the aftermath of 9/11 would have no clue the threat stemmed from Islamic extremism.
Designed not to offend moderate Muslims, Obama’s policy has been a complete failure as reflected in translations of news articles on the Arab street published on the occasion of the ninth anniversary of the attacks. Newspapers in moderate, US-allied states such as Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait suggested 9/11 was a US/Israeli conspiracy used by the US to justify invading Iraq.
For thousands of years, ever since the days of the Sumerians, Middle East inhabitants have been subjected to the rule of the “lugal”—a strongman who was both feared and revered. The tone of the articles clearly indicates for Obama there is neither fear nor reverence.
Even leaders in moderate Muslim states like Turkey continue to encourage Muslims living in the West not to assimilate and to focus on spreading Islam into their host nations. They see a weak US leadership as holding open the door through which Muslim immigrants can pass to pursue this goal. They see an administration providing a fertile, politically correct soil of tolerance in the US that will enable Islam to flourish as a vine that will one day strangle the roots of democracy that nurtured its growth.
Meanwhile, a children’s coloring book, published to commemorate the tenth anniversary of 9/11, tells the story of what really happened that day. Publisher Wayne Bell tells it like it is, “This book is about 19 evil terrorists who murdered 3,000 people. It just so happens that the people who flew those planes into the buildings were radical Muslim jihadists.”
Prior to publishing the coloring book, Bell notes a lot of research was done. He said parents were interviewed and “the recurring theme we heard was do not make a book that’s politically correct and is going to whitewash this event.” People wanted a patriotic book with a theme that became the book’s title, “We shall never forget 9/11.” Bell says the book seeks to teach children that “freedom-hating radical Islamic Muslim extremists” attacked the US because they “hate the American way of life because we are FREE.”
The coloring book has, unsurprisingly, been criticized by an Islamic extremist apologists who call the book “disgusting.” Among its critics, again unsurprisingly, is the Michigan branch of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) that makes just the opposite complaint critics made of Obama’s QHSR report—every mention of Muslims or Islam is accompanied by the word “terrorist” or “extremist.”
CAIR’s motivation in attacking an educational 9/11 coloring book attributing responsibility for the attack to the Islamic extremists who conducted it needs to be considered. Once a non-profit organization, CAIR had its tax free status revoked for refusing to disclose its financing sources. It was named by the US Department of Justice in 2008 as an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terror financing trial in US history. Its founding member, Omar Ahmad, has stated, “Islam isn’t in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Qur’an should be the highest authority in America.”
CAIR’s founder’s call to Islamify the US is one heralded in other parts of the West as well. In Britain, Islamic groups professing to be educational, are not. Last year, the Islamic Awakening Conference hosted a lecture given by an Islamic extremist propagandist, British Salafi Abu Mounisa. Chastising non-Muslims for worshipping democracy, his call was for the murder of all non-Muslims to replace it with Islam’s shariah law.
Interestingly, while US domestic acts of terrorism by Islamists was low between 2001 and 2008, the total doubled during the first year of Obama’s term. As the Bipartisan Policy Center reports, “the only common denominator appears to be a newfound hatred for their native or adopted country, a degree of dangerous malleability, and a religious fervor justifying or legitimizing violence that impels these very impressionable and perhaps easily influenced individuals toward potentially lethal acts of violence.”
It is such a mindset that has been linked to numerous attacks or plots against US targets both at home and abroad based on the teachings of the Qur’an. It is such a mindset that has given rise to a sense of entitlement for Muslim parents to conduct “honor killings” of their children for embracing Western culture contrary to the Qur’an. It is such a mindset that has justified the rape of a wife by a Muslim man for her failure to submit to him contrary to the Qur’an. Yet this is the same Qur’an CAIR’s founder seeks to make the highest authority in America.
On the tenth anniversary of a savage Islamist attack on our country, the worst thing a serving US president could do is fail to identify with specificity that the real threat to our national security is Islamic extremism—as well as moderates who, like CAIR’s founder, embrace his goal to make all other faiths in the US subservient to Islam. We have a duty to start educating our children as to this dangerous intent.
Bell’s coloring book needs to be issued to every member of Obama’s national security team in order to color them informed!
