2008 Campaign

Family Security Matters does not stand behind or endorse any candidate for president (or any other public office). However, as the President is also Commander-in-Chief and is responsible for setting national security policy, we will be publishing a variety of articles on both the Republican and Democrat candidates for President during this election year. As always, the opinions of our Contributing Editors are their own, and do not necessarily reflect those of Family Security Matters.

Amnesty before the Senate !!!

Thursday update:

The Senate will resume debate on the bill this morning. Please call your Senators to tell them to remove the H-2B visa increases as well, and to keep the AgJOBS amnesty and employment-based permanent worker increases off the bill.

A supplemental spending bill for Iraq has been hijacked by open borders advocates in the Senate, who have added an amendment calling for the following provisions:
  • Grant a three-year work visa followed by a permanent greencard to all illegal aliens who have been working as shepherds, goat herders and dairy herders.
  • Grant a five-year work visa to the estimated 1.3 million illegal aliens working in other agricultural jobs - plus all of their families. There is no instruction on what happens after the five years.
  • Grant a tripling of the maximum number of H-2B visas for lower skill, non-agricultural seasonal workers.
  • Grant industries an extra 218,000 additional permanent green cards for skilled foreign workers.
While our immigration system may need an overhaul, is granting amnesty to those who didn't play by the rules the right way to go about it? Will it encourage more illegal aliens to sneak over the border at a time when our national security should be at the top of our list of priorities?
FSM Contributing Editor Mike Cutler, an expert on immigration issues, told FSM that "the way in which Sen. Feinstein and Sen. Craig are attempting to tie this duplicitous legislation to vital military funding represents, in my judgment, a perversion of the democratic process. Legislation ina democracy must represent the will of the people and the best interests of the nation and a majority of the citizens of the nation. When coercion is used to achieve a goal that is against the will of the People, then the first casualty is democracy."
He also noted that "rewarding those who violate our borders and our laws simply encourage still more illegal aliens to follow in the path of those illegal aliens who preceded them and achieved their goals."
The vote could take place today. Contact Congress to let your senators and representatives know how you feel:
