Exclusive: It’s Not the End of the World
Jason Rantz

I need to stop checking my e-mail – every time I log on, I am invited to some far-Right wing, user-created group telling me one of the several things:
1) We must stop President-elect Barack Obama from being certified by the Electoral College because he’s not a U.S. citizen;
2) We must stop Obama from being certified by the Electoral College because he hates Jews and Israel;
3) We must impeach Obama (before he’s been put in office, no doubt) because he’s surely going to break the law; and
4) We must stop Obama because he’s not U.S.-born, he hates Jews, and he’s going to break the law.
As much as I enjoy sending these invites to the garbage bin, I’m concerned what these crack pots are doing to the party. They do not, thankfully, speak for the majority of the Republican Party (not by a long shot), but their nonsense speaks louder than any reasonable conservative can because not only do the “crazies” draw more attention to themselves, but a liberal media is more than willing to highlight their nonsense in mainstream news stories. Just last week, I read a story on Drudge (linking to the AP) about how “Impeach Obama” sites are popping up on Facebook. I heard an interview on a talk radio show with attorney Philip Berg about his failing effort to stop Obama from being certified President (can you really trust the legal arguments of a man whose website is titled “ObamaCrimes.com”?).
Enough with the nonsense: give Obama a chance, even if you’re giving him a chance to fail.
I believe strongly in our system of governance and not even the President of the United States of America can undo everything this country stands for – nor will he.
As we are aware – and certain Obama will never forget – the President-elect is the first African-American man in the highest position of power in the world. We can trust that no matter how liberal he is – whether he be a Marxist, a Socialist, a Communist, or a certified loon – he is an intelligent man who knows very well how tough history will judge him as the first African-American President. He is going to try to make some sweeping changes, but none that history will be unforgiving of.
Throughout his entire career, Obama has been disciplined and calculated. Save a few errors in judgments (also known as “The Rev. Jeremiah Wright”), President-elect Obama has always come off as someone very understanding and cognizant of what his election could mean to other African-Americans.
When you are the first of anything, you will be judged harshly by history and, contemporarily by your peers. There will be some things Obama plays safe, so don’t worry: he will not cut ties with Israel; he will not sit idly by if we’re threatened by terrorists; and he certainly won’t be in lock-and-step with Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. History will remember those two Democrat leaders as “superfluous” and “partisan;” President-elect Obama does not want those terms next to his name in any textbook.
