After watching the illuminating Democrat Rules Meeting last weekend, complete with the lecturing, finger pointing, and heckling, one can only conclude that the party is nowhere near what they've claimed it was for years.
Harriet Christian of New York, a Hillary Clinton supporter angered by the decision to split the Florida and Michigan delegates between her candidate and Barack Obama, summed it all up.
"I'm proud to be an older American woman....
"The Democrats are throwing the election away. For what? An inadequate black male, who would not have been running had it not been a white woman that was running for president?
Barack Obama hasn't even completed his first term as a United States senator, yet is running for president. One can honestly make the claim he isn't qualified, but because of his race, has been embraced by the liberal establishment as a means of assuaging their self-induced white guilt curse.
Thus, as the first Affirmative Action presidential candidate, he has dredged up the resentment many Americans feel whenever bumped by someone who is clearly less qualified, yet selected purely because of his or her race. AA was always considered a good thing when booting a white male from a position they clearly deserved. Now that it's being used against the Left (and they don't even realize it), it's irking many.
"And I'm not gonna shut my mouth anymore. I can be called white, but you can't be called black. That's not my America. It's equality for all of us. It's about time we all stood up for it.
In the run-up to the South Carolina primary, Bill Clinton called Obama's candidacy a "fairy tale," thus officially introducing the race card into the competition. This came after Hillary's use of the gender card of crying on cue, and the media being told not to "hit the girl."
Again, a fascinating development.
The very people who lecture us and our kids on the dream of a colorblind, gender-neutral society, have effectively and strategically split their own voting bloc down racial and gender lines. As of this publishing, Hillary Clinton has a lock on the white vote, Barack Obama has a lock on the black vote, and both sides are threatening to sit out the November election if their candidate doesn't win the nomination.
So much for the dream of "tolerance" and "inclusion."
"I'm no second class citizen, and God d*** the Democrats....
Harriet, you're not alone.
The party of tolerance and inclusion, in combination with their penchant for celebrating multiculturalism, has divided us by hyphen. Almost every group in America has been labeled according to its race. We have African-Americans, Asian-Americans, Cuban-Americans, and Italian-Americans (only used when diffusing any mob references), yet the white liberals in this country have failed to hyphenate themselves.
That is, until now. Whites are now Hillary-whites, and as they feel put upon by those who are fawning all over the do-no-wrong Barack Obama, some feel as though they are second-class citizens. This isn't because we've had some seismic shift in our national identity, but because the Clintons needed a way to marginalize Obama, and the race card was the most convenient.
As far as "God-d***ing" the Democrats, we'll see what happens in Denver.
"I came here for the vote of every American, and our Democratic Party threw us down the tubes. I was a second-class citizen before, now I'm nothing. Why? Because they want to do what they want to do.
During the Rules meeting on Saturday, Democrats there made many sorry references to the 2000 "stolen" election. There were many well-read speeches that called for every vote being counted. Thus the great irony (I've been using that word a lot lately) that these Democrats have ended up creating "one-half" delegates.
The party of tolerance and inclusion basically set themselves up here.
Some, representing the states that moved up their primaries, argued that the first states recognized in the Democrat primary process (New Hampshire and Iowa) were just too lily white to be representative of America, and the electoral/caucus results left an inaccurate first impression of their candidates. So they attempted to "fix" things.
And fix things they did. Today, white Democrats like Harriet Christian are angry as she (and many others) believes an unqualified black man is being shoved down their throats, while a more qualified white woman (with more popular votes) is being kicked to the curb.
Others believe whites have it in for their black candidate who is winning the delegate count.
Knowing Democrats (and the Clintons) as we do, this will not be fixed in a way that will end in a Kumbaya moment. The Denver Fire Department will surely be on alert during the Democrat National Convention.
"And they think we won't turn and vote for McCain Well, I got news for all of you: McCain will be the next president of the United States."
We shall see.
For many years, liberals and Democrats have talked down to us. They extolled their virtues of tolerance and inclusion. They scolded us as a nation about our inherent sexist and racist tendencies; traits they've long since jettisoned.
They took it upon themselves to go behind our backs as to retrain our kids in schools, and provided them an atmosphere on campus where intolerance of all kinds was removed. They've assumed the role of moral police in the United States, as they alone created a nation where all men and women would be treated with honor and respect.
As a conservative, I'm almost giddy watching these Democrats choke on the very words they've thrown in so many of our faces.
Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama have played the race and gender cards, while talking about uniting the country. I guess you have to rip it apart before you can unite it.
