Senior Intelligence Officials: Attempted Terror Attack "Certain"

The five senior leaders of the U.S. intelligence community told a Senate panel they are "certain" that terrorists will attempt another attack on the United States in the next three to six months.
If true, why do you think the jihadists feel emboldened?

There'll Be No Debate
David Limbaugh.com

While the erudite, urbane left demonstrates its sophistication and collegiality by personally attacking Rush Limbaugh, the nation is going down in financial flames, largely because of the unchecked policy insanity being unleashed by our new president. Yet his flacks in the media continue to shield him from even rudimentary questions that any other president would receive.

That's why you don't have to wait in suspense to see whether the president will accept Rush's offer to debate the issues. It would not be in Obama's personal interests to shift the public's attention from childish insults about Rush to substantive policy.

Do you honestly think President Obama wants public scrutiny of his policies? Do you think he'd feel comfortable being challenged on his inconsistencies, misrepresentations and astonishingly early breaches of his campaign promises?

You've surely seen his reactions on those rare occasions he's been challenged. Take his response to the Republicans' appeal that he fulfill his promise of bipartisanship on the stimulus package: "I won."

I'm just wildly speculating, of course, but I suspect that Mr. Obama would not be too keen on having to answer the following questions, among many others: Read article.

Obama is in Trouble
DC Examiner.com

Since the first of the year, Rush Limbaugh's audience has exploded , according to Howard Kurtz of The Washington Post, even as his daily assaults on Obama have intensified. The conservative Talk Radio maestro has become quite possibly the most listened-to radio personality in America since before Paul Harvey (God rest his soul).

Demand for his air time hs suddenly become so intense, Limbaugh told The Examiner's Byron York earlier today, that his network sold 80 percent as much advertising in January 2009 as it did in all of 2008, and expects to sell-out the year by the end of March. That was before Obama and White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel launched an explicit counter-attack against Limbaugh that seems only to be making him bigger.

* Glenn Beck's eminently forgettable presence on CNN has been transformed, according to The Los Angeles Times, by his move to Fox News where his main theme has been variations on this question - Wake Up! Wake UP! What in Heaven's name does Barack Obama think he is doing to America? Beck has a tough time slot from which to win big ratings because he's in the middle of evening drive-time. Even so, in a very short period of time at Fox, his audience has grown to the point that it is now exceeded only by those of Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity. Read article.

The Great Non Sequitur: The Sleight of Hand Behind Obama's Agenda
Charles Krauthammer, JWR.com

Forget the pork. Forget the waste. Forget the 8,570 earmarks in a bill supported by a president who poses as the scourge of earmarks. Forget the "2 trillion dollars in savings" that "we have already identified," $1.6 trillion of which President Obama's budget director later admits is the "savings" of not continuing the surge in Iraq until 2019 — 11 years after George Bush ended it, and eight years after even Bush would have had us out of Iraq completely.

Forget all of this. This is run-of-the-mill budget trickery. Obama has come to redeem us with his far-seeing program of universal, heavily nationalized health care; a cap-and-trade tax on energy; and a major federalization of education with universal access to college as the goal. Amazing. As an explanation of our current economic difficulties, this is total fantasy. As a cure for rapidly growing joblessness, a massive destruction of wealth, a deepening worldwide recession, this is perhaps the greatest non sequitur ever foisted upon the American people. Has Obama Buried Reagan? The GOP is faltering in its defense of Republican ideals.
Daniel Henninger, Online WSJ.com

The Democratic idea bank of Robert & Robert says it's safe to unload on Ronald Reagan.

Robert Reich: "It is the boldest budget we have seen since the Reagan administration, and drives a nail in the coffin of Reaganomics. We can basically say goodbye to the philosophy espoused by Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher."

Robert Shrum: "Obama is not only unwinding Reagan's policies, he is offering a Rooseveltian paradigm that justifies government pragmatically."

Hmmm. Let us consider an alternative universe.

The stock market has been in a free-fall dismantling the saved wealth of millions of individual Americans who must feel they are living through the exploding rubble of some Hollywood disaster movie.

In reaction, Republicans, true to form, set sail for a deserted island to ponder a dispute between Rush Limbaugh and Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele. At issue: Who's captain of the GOP Titanic. Read article.

Why Do You All Keep Saying Obama Killed Reagan?
Warner Todd Huston, StopTheACLU.com

The pundits and talking heads have settled on a sensational meme: Obama killed Reagan. To the Old Media and the pundit class, it’s got all the requisite characteristics of a great story. New beating old, liberal trumping conservative, it has power, pathos and amazement. But, it is also pure hyperbole and, well, a load of horse puckey.

But, folks can we focus on something salient to this discussion for just a minute? As I write this, we’ve had a President Obama for a grand total of 45 days. So, with that small fraction of a term in mind, it is simply absurd to say that Obama has killed anything at this early stage. No president can wholly re-make the country in 45 days. It just isn’t possible.

Yet, now we have an Obama that is claimed to have remade the whole country and become wildly successful in a mere 45 days?

Ridiculous.

This is not to say that the policies he is attempting to implement can’t or won’t re-make the country. It is also not to say he will be either a success or a failure. Any and all of that is possible. It is also just as possible that what he is attempting in these first few months will unravel like a cheap knit sweater turning him from The One into the done. Read article.

We Shall Remain....Conservatives
Rich Carroll, 2 Sisters from the Right.com

Watching my country turned into a socialist, liberal nation of whining government teat suckers is like Paul Bunyan watching his blue ox “Babe” being converted to bouillon cubes. Americans were eager and easy to be led because they were lazy and slothful and sacrificed clarity for something that sounded like “hope.”

The gallant, dashing, heroic courage of noble-minded behavior that was once so quintessentially American has become the human portrayal of hollowness, and in my rage I wonder if my words aren’t sucked into the dead blank screen of my computer like water pulled down a drain carrying with them only the merest hint of personal connection with you, the reader.

I fully understand and grasp the animosity and hatred I have for liberals as they hungrily inhale the rancid stench of America’s downfall. I cannot understand the animosity and hatred which they have for our system. These are the people who would degrade our finest military personnel while calling a Jihad terrorist “freedom fighter.” How is a mind so twisted? Those who scream for money in education, then use those monies for the perverse social engineering classes of homosexuality and transgender understanding, diversity training and multiculturalism. The same mind that was so eager to throw God away from our children eagerly grasps and sympathizes with the murdering monolith of Islam. Read article.

Confused by Obama's planned obliteration of USA?
Sher Zieve, RenewAmerica.us

Fearless Leader Obama is on a purposeful and unapologetic mission to destroy the United States of America. I have written myriad articles on this subject — both before and after the election of Barack Hussein Obama to POTUS (a position for which he still appears to be Constitutionally unqualified) — which are backed up by almost voluminous references. Prior to the 2008 general election, I even asked "Is the USA Ready for an American Stalin?"

Chillingly, the answer appears to be 'yes.'

Since Obama and his followers seized the country's executive branch, the USA has been up against a non-stop attack from within its now almost non existent borders. Obama has replaced the establishment of our God given freedoms and liberties, brought to the fore by our founding fathers, with single-minded siege mentality and actions. Yet, too many Republican leaders still appear to remain oblivious as to what this man and his minions are really doing. Either that or they're too afraid of him to speak out. Read article.

Pitchfork Time
Pat Buchanan, Human Events.com

In his campaign and inaugural address, Barack Obama cast himself as a moderate man seeking common ground with conservatives.

Yet, his budget calls for the radical restructuring of the U.S. economy, a sweeping redistribution of power and wealth to government and Democratic constituencies. It is a declaration of war on the Right.

The real Obama has stood up, and lived up to his ranking as the most left-wing member of the United States Senate.

Republicans are under no obligation to render bipartisan support to this statist coup d'état. For what is going down is a leftist power grab that is anathema to their principles and philosophy. Read article.

Media Blackout: Hillary Insults Europe
Robert McIntosh, PatriotRoom.com

Not more than a day or two after the Obamas insult the British, Hillary manages to dig the hole a little deeper.

To start with she told the European Parliament as reported by Reuters:

"I have never understood multiparty democracy. It is hard enough with two parties to come to any resolution, and I say this very respectfully, because I feel the same way about our own democracy, which has been around a lot longer than European democracy."
Hmm. Ours has been around longer? To me however, the real telling statement was

"I have never understood multiparty democracy.
Ahhh, so now we see that she believes, and I suspect many high level democrats, that only a one party democracy is the way go. Sole power. Isn't that what Saddam Hussein had? Read article.

Betraying Our Friends
IBD Editorials.com

Appeasing Russia to "solve" Iran's nuclear ambitions is not the only disconcerting feature of President Obama's approach to the world. Vital friends and allies are getting America's cold shoulder.

What sense does it make that after Ronald Reagan wins the Cold War by refusing to abandon missile defense, the United States offers it as a bargaining chip to an increasingly menacing post-Communist Russia?

And where is the wisdom in withdrawing plans to use missile defense to protect the liberated former Eastern Bloc states against a Russian aggressor willing to wage war with the former Soviet state of Georgia and use the Ukrainian pipeline to starve Europeans of natural gas — all to prevent its former satellites from aligning with the free West?

Is it any wonder that the Poles and the Czechs — who have only known freedom for a short time — now long for the days of President George W. Bush, a president willing to help them defend their liberty against aggression? Read article.

Obama Lied; The Economy Died
Tony Blankley, JWR.com

I am trying to capture the spirit of bipartisanship as practiced by the Democratic Party over the past eight years. Thus, I have chosen as my lead this proposition: Obama lied; the economy died. Obviously, I am borrowing this from the Democratic theme of 2003-08: "Bush lied, people died." There are, of course, two differences between the slogans.

In the age of Obama, there is little more important than maintaining the integrity of our language against the onslaught of Orwellian language abuse that is already a babbling brook and soon will be a cataract of verbal deception.

The other difference is that Bush didn't lie about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. He merely was mistaken. Whereas Obama told a whopper when he claimed that he is not for bigger government. Read article.

Fatal trajectory
Thomas Sowell, Washington Times.com

An increasing number of recent letters and e-mails from readers strike a note, not only of unhappiness with the way things are going in our society, but a note of despair.

Those of us who are pessimists are only a step away from despair ourselves, so we may not be the ones to offer the best antidote to the view that America has seen its best days and is degenerating toward what may well be its worst. Yet what hope remains is no less precious nor any less worthy of being preserved.

First of all, the day-to-day life of most Americans in these times is nowhere near as dire as that of the band of cold, ragged and hungry men who gathered around George Washington in the winter at Valley Forge, to which they had been driven by defeat after defeat.

Only the most reckless gambler would have bet on them to win. Read article.

Intelligence Failure: Obama recruits from China Inc. to fill a critical national-security post.
Editors, NRO.com

Charles Freeman is a career diplomat, a Saudi apologist, and a savage critic of Israel. He also argues that Beijing did not strike down the Tiananmen Square protesters with sufficient swiftness. Barack Obama proposes to make him head of the National Intelligence Council. It’s an abominable appointment.

The National Intelligence Council is, as its website says, “a center of strategic thinking within the U.S. Government, reporting to the Director of National Intelligence . . . and providing the President and senior policymakers with analyses of foreign policy issues that have been reviewed and coordinated throughout the Intelligence Community.” The NIC plays a crucial role in determining what specific intelligence the president consumes from the torrents of information gathered by 16 different agencies. As chairman, Freeman will decide how that intelligence is framed. So how does he view the world? Read article.

Rewriting Mortgages and the American Social Contract
Tom Suhadolnik, American Thinker.com

All government programs have unintended consequences. But rarely has a program been so potentially damaging to the American social contract than President Obama's Housing Relief Program. To most homeowners paying the mortgage is not merely a legal requirement; it is a moral imperative. The residential mortgage is also the financial and legal underpinning of the American Dream of homeownership. The President's proposal risks stripping mortgage obligations of their bedrock status in our society.

Government programs to redistribute wealth are unpopular with a majority of Americans. The mythical rich who did not pay income tax (in 2006 the top 10% of households with adjusted gross income of $108,904 paid 70.79% of federal income taxes) and welfare recipients like California's In Vitro Octomom are the sort of issues which dominate what substitutes for reasoned debate on wealth redistribution. We discuss these caricatures because people putting money into the system and people taking it out tend not to know each other. Our federal tax system transfers wealth from one socio-economic stratum to another. The Week of Revelation
Michael Gerson, Patriot Post.us

As the national debt's percentage of GDP moves from about 40 percent to perhaps 70 percent, there will not be enough wealthy people left to bleed. Once the economy recovers, broad tax increases will be unavoidable. Or Obama's "once-in-a-generation chance" will actually involve the imposition of massive burdens on the next generation.

Conservatives hope Obama's overreach and Harry Reid's and Nancy Pelosi's arrogance will provoke a backlash -- leading markets to revolt, uniting the Republican base and causing doubts among fiscally conservative Democrats. But as an academic at Princeton recently reminded me, "It is only overreach if you fail."

In the meantime, we have learned some important things. On defense policy, the peace candidate is not a radical. On economic policy, the post-partisan could hardly be more partisan. Obama does not want to cultivate conservatives; he wants to crush them. And that is a revelation. Read article.

Who elected Obama?
Mark Alexander, Patriot Post.us

Here is a recap of the survey data concerning the presidential election.

Some 136.6 million Americans voted -- a 64.1 percent turnout and the highest since 1908. Obama is the first Democrat to win a majority of the popular vote (53 percent) since Jimmy Carter. By sex, BHO's support was 49 percent male and 56 percent female. By ethnic group, his support comprised 41 percent of Whites, 61 percent of Asians, 75 percent of Latinos and 95 percent of Blacks. By age, BHO's largest support demographic was 66 percent of voters under the age of 30. By income, 52 percent of voters with more than $200,000 in annual income voted for Obama. By education, his support came from those without a college degree and those with a post-graduate degree.

So, his victory was largely due to support from non-whites, from those under 30, from those with the lowest income and education, and from a small number of voters at the other end of those spectrums, while those of middle age, income and education tended to support John McCain.

By religion, Obama received support from 46 percent of Protestant voters, 56 percent of Catholic voters and 62 percent of voters of other religions. BHO received 76 percent of atheist and agnostic voters.

The Barna Research Group looked at some other interesting characteristics of Obama voters: 57 percent of those who consider themselves "lonely or isolated," 59 percent of those affected by the economic decline in "a major way," and 61 percent of those who claim they are "stressed out" supported BHO.

So, considering the stats, the Democrats' strategy of fomenting dissent and disunity by promoting themes of disparity was vital to Obama's election. Indeed, the Left's political playbook has only one chapter defining their modus operandi -- "Divide-n-Conquer." No wonder their national leadership calls itself the DnC. Read article.
