Why I'm Afraid of a President Barack Obama
Sandy Rios, Townhall.com
If Barack Obama is elected President of the United States, I fear our enemies will smell the blood of weakness and rise in retaliation here and abroad. While Obama makes sweeping promises to end the war in Iraq, he never projects the consequences. Radical Islam is waging a holy war against us-and they have no intent on ending their war against the West.
Withdrawal will be perceived as surrender and the election of a president sympathetic to their cause will embolden them like nothing else. Iraq will recede into bloody, sectarian retaliatory violence. Iran will take advantage and wield new power in the region. Our military families will have the sacrifice of their loved ones rendered meaninglessness. And our enemies will come here.
Israel will find itself alone. Europe and the British Isles, already too overrun with Islamists, will provide little defense. A future President Obama, championed by members of Hamas in Gaza, endorsed by one of their leaders-a dear friend to PLO sympathizer and Yasser Arafat apologist-Rashid Kalidi, will, I fear, not lift a finger to defend them.
It is, after all, this same future president who has sat for 20 years (until recently without objection), listening to Dr. Jeremiah Wright praise Hamas and the famous Israel despiser, Louis Farrakhan. Read article.
Michelle Obama and Louis Farrakhan Take On Whitey
Larry Johnson, No Quarter USA.net
I learned over the weekend why the Republicans who have seen the tape of Michelle Obama ranting about "whitey" describe it as "STUNNING." I have not seen it but I have heard from five separate sources who have spoken directly with people who have seen the tape. It features Michelle Obama and Louis Farrakhan. They are sitting on a panel at Jeremiah Wright's Church when Michelle makes her intemperate remarks. Whoops!! When that image comes out it will enter the politcal ads hall of fame. It will be right up there with the little girl plucking daisy petals in the famous 1964 ad LBJ used against Barry Goldwater.
Barack may have quit his church but his religious problems are not over. Barack Obama has a Nation of Islam problem that will receive more attention in the coming days. Before Barack came on the scene, THE MAN in his political district was Louis Farrakhan. No one could take Alice Palmer's seat without Farrakhan's blessing. No one. I do not fault Barack Obama for seeking out the blessing of Farrakhan, but the story of what was done behind the scenes to get rid of Barack's predecessor-Alice Palmer-has not been told. A knowledgeable source tells me that Tony Rezko played a direct role in this feat. And Rezko has been tight with Farrakhan. Read article.
Top Seven Reasons Why Barack Obama is a Weaker Candidate Than People Think
John Hawkins, Townhall.com
John McCain is having a very tough time uniting conservatives and the political winds seem to be at the Democrats' backs; so many people seem to think that Barack Obama will win in a walk in November. However, that's probably not going to be the case.
In a normal year, where the public was more closely divided between the Dems and the GOP, McCain would be capable of wiping out a candidate as weak as Obama in a landslide of Dukakis-esque proportions. With that in mind, even in a year like this, where Obama has a huge advantage, chances are that if he wins, he'll have to pull it off by coming in on the right side of a 2000/2004 style squeaker of an election.
Here's a short but sweet primer that will help explain why that's the case: Read article.
Governor Jindal, The "Christian Right," And The "Catholic Issue"
Austin Hill, Townhall.com
At age 36, Jindal is a former member of the United States House of Representatives; a former Secretary of the Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, where he took the state agency from a $400 million deficit to a $200 million surplus without tax increases; and is now the current Republican Governor of Louisiana.
Governor Jindal made national news last week when he, along with Florida Governor Charlie Crist and former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney schmoozed at John McCain's private residence in Arizona. The presumption at the time was that Mr. McCain had all three of these men under consideration as prospective Vice Presidential picks, and, while I'm not convinced that this is accurate, it did nonetheless garner Jindal a lot of attention.
But let‘s set aside the V.P speculation for a moment. Objectively, Governor Jindal has an impressive record as both a legislator and as a Governor; he is receiving very enthusiastic responses from both fiscal and social conservative leaders; and he looks more and more to be a part of the future of American political conservatism.
So what could possibly get in the way of Governor Jindal's rise to national influence? Read article.
Why Would Scott McClellan Get in Bed with George Soros?
Tammy Bruce, Fox News.com
When the news about Scott McClellan's Bush-bashing book hit the proverbial fan I noted on my radio program that the timing and content were strange enough we would inevitably learn of ‘other factors' being involved in the creation of this book.
After all, it is indeed a bizarre situation to destroy so many personal relationships with nothing more than speculation on discussions behind closed-doors; admissions of being kept out of the White House loop (but then commentary and accusation that could only come from someone in the loop) and irrelevant declarations of personal opinions about the war in Iraq and the aftermath of Katrina.
Why McClellan would get into bed with Soros is now the question.
Karl Rove and so many others note that this is not the Scott they knew. Perhaps it literally isn't. For me, the Soros/McClellan connection indicates a far more nefarious relationship and serious situation and whatever would drive McClellan in that astoundingly odious direction is the real and relevant human interest story. After all, the activities in the White House and all that he condemns now certainly wasn't bothering him enough to resign at the time.
Soros must be happy with the response to the McClellan book. What won't make him happy is the realization that Barack Obama is the national Ned Lamont. Oh sure, you may be able to become the "Candidate of Moonbat" choice (barely) as the Soros-Gestapos found in Connecticut. You might even get Democrat leadership to carry your water. The American people, however, are a very different group. And as Soros found out in 2000, 2004 and in Connecticut 2006, we're not buying anything he, or his finger-puppets, have to sell. Echoes of 1968
Michael M. Bates, NMJ.us
It's been 40 years since his passing, but Robert Kennedy is again in the news. One reason is Hillary Clinton's imprudent mention of his assassination. Barack Obama and media accomplices managed to turn that molehill into a mountain in near-record time.
Another reason is that Obama has invoked Bobby's memory throughout his campaign. People who weren't around 40 years ago have been instilled with the fable of Kennedy's pristine greatness and Barack hopes to benefit by the association.
I wonder how many of Obama's young, college-educated liberals know much about the real Bobby Kennedy. Would their admiration be diluted if they knew of a 1956 conversation he had with an assistant attorney general in the Eisenhower administration?
"The trouble with you Republicans is that you have done away with the very best man your party has," Bobby told the appointee. When asked who that was, his reply was Joe McCarthy. Yes, that Joe McCarthy. The official asked if Kennedy were joking. The response: "I am not kidding. I think so well of the man I made him a godfather of one of my children."
Which is true. Joe McCarthy was the godfather of Kennedy's oldest child. And when the infamous Red hunter from Wisconsin was buried in 1957, Bobby Kennedy flew to Appleton for the services.
Kennedy's entrance into the 1968 presidential campaign wasn't as daring as some believe. On January 30, he had told reporters he had "no plans to oppose Lyndon Johnson under any foreseeable circumstances."
New Hampshire's March primary led to an unexpectedly strong showing by antiwar candidate Eugene McCarthy against the incumbent Johnson. Four days later, Bobby announced his own candidacy. Read article.
The Denver Sheriff Department gets ready to handle 3,000 arrests during the convention.
Chuck Plunkett, Denver Post.com
The Denver Sheriff Department is preparing to handle up to 3,000 arrests during the 2008 Democratic National Convention, the director of corrections said Thursday.
Bill Lovingier, who is also the undersheriff in charge of the jails, spoke about a wide range of preparations for handling the possibility of mass arrests after criticisms by the Colorado American Civil Liberties Union were reported in The Denver Post.
Lovingier said that in order to create holding space, an unspecified number of county jail inmates will be moved to jails in neighboring jurisdictions and city jail inmates will be transferred to the county jail.
Several strategies will be in place, Lovingier said, to speed the processing time for protesters arrested for minor offenses.
"We anticipate most of the people will bond out quickly," Lovingier said. "We don't anticipate holding for any large period of time."
In addition, the county courts are clearing their normal schedule for convention week and are setting up an additional courtroom to handle arraignments for those who can't bond out, according to Andrew Armatas, the presiding judge. Read article.
Lieberman to speak at Hagee-hosted conference
One News Now.com
Senator Joe Lieberman says he'll speak at a July conference hosted by Pastor John Hagee, whose endorsement has been rejected by GOP presidential candidate John McCain.
McCain last week repudiated the months-old endorsement after an audio recording surfaced in which Hagee said God used Adolf Hitler to push Jews back to the Promised Land.
In a statement, Lieberman says he considers some of Hagee's comments unacceptable and hurtful, but will judge him on his life's work fighting anti-Semitism and building bridges between Christians and Jews.
Lieberman says he still plans to speak at Hagee's Christians United for Israel summit in Washington.
The Connecticut senator, who is Jewish, was Democrat Al Gore's running mate in 2000. He now is one of McCain's strongest supporters and has been mentioned as a possible McCain running mate. Read article.
Quo Vadis, GOP? How a conservative can love government.
Alex Castellanos, NRO.com
The Republican party is a having an identity crisis, a full-blown public meltdown, complete with teenage existential angst. Erik Erikson, the psychologist who coined the term, described an "identity crisis" as the absence of a set of constant social, philosophical, or religious values to guide human action in a constantly changing environment. That pretty much describes today's Republicans, who have no clue who they are, where they are going, or why - a serious impairment if you presume to lead a conga line, and much more so for the most powerful nation on earth.
Republicans can't seem to express an organizing principle these days, and almost everyone with a computer to type on has noticed. David Brooks writes in the New York Times that the British have at last declared their independence from us: American conservatives, he notes, have lost the leadership of the conservative movement to them. Tom Davis, a former leader of the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee, writes, "the Republican brand is in the trash can."
The New Yorker headlines, "The Fall of Conservatism: Have the Republicans run out of ideas?" Most painful of all, the elegant Peggy Noonan, who is to conservative composition what Fred Astaire was to dance, says the Republican party, including its conservative leadership, has "squandered the hard-built paternity of 40 years" because we are no longer serious about leadership, policy, or ideas. Jewish Democrats Vote for their Extinction
Dick McDonald, Dick McDonald.Blogspot.com
It continues to mystify me why American Jews perpetually vote for a party that seeks their extinction. How can anyone come to another conclusion when Democrats lobby the public to leave Iraq and let the enemies of Israel consolidate their power and plan for the incineration of Israel and all Jewish people throughout the world?
I could understand why Jews vote for the party that supposedly champions the oppressed. However, that dynamic is a faded memory when confronted with the Democrats support for the adoption of Muslim laws and practices which eventually will lead to the extinction of the Jewish community - much like it has in Baghdad.
American Jews need to hear these numbers and vote for Republicans who fiercely oppose the forces of Islam. These numbers foretell exactly what the Jewish community in America may be facing if Democrat appeasement of Islam is allowed to continue to dominate our legislative halls.
Fifty years ago there were 130,000 Jews in the city of Baghdad, today they can't find 10 Jews to conduct a sacred Jewish ritual.
The handwriting is on the wall. Islam is pursuing its worldwide caliphate and utilizing the Democrats in America as "useful idiots" to advance their war on non-Muslim peoples. Read article.
Pawlenty exhorts GOP to restore optimism of Reagan era
Patricia Lopez, Star Tribune.com
Speaking at the state party's convention, the governor said people deserve leaders "who are hopeful, optimistic, decent" and called upon Republicans to provide that leadership. Beforehand, he again demurred on talk of his vice presidential prospects.
In a speech early this morning, Gov. Tim Pawlenty told Republicans they need to dial the clock back nearly 30 years and return to the sunny optimism of former President Ronald Reagan.
People, he told attendees at the state party convention, "deserve leaders who are hopeful, optimistic, decent," who can carry a positive Republican message that excites and energizes voters.
"People want to be part of something exciting, positive, meaningful." But even more importantly, he said, Republicans must find a way to connect with the vast middle of Americans. "We have not done as good a job translating our ideas into meaningful connections" to working-class families, he said, "but we can do it . because ideas and values matter."
Unless Republicans want just to debate ideas instead of winning elections, he said, the party will have to reach out to "center-right Democrats and independents." Read article.
McCain's Running Mate? Why Not a Democrat?
Jonah Goldberg, Patriot Post.us
John McCain needs to pick a running mate. He has a tough decision to make.
A very old presidential candidate in a party that has lost the confidence of the American people, McCain will likely face a young, charismatic black guy who promises to "turn the page" away from the Clinton-Bush era, toward a new era of bipartisanship and unity. Meanwhile, the base of McCain's party has serious and legitimate misgivings about him.
Those misgivings have prompted some on the right, including my National Review colleagues Ramesh Ponnuru and Kate O'Beirne, to argue that McCain should offer a one-term-and-out pledge. This not only would defuse the age issue but would telegraph in concrete terms that McCain really is a different kind of politician (while Obama only pretends to be). "The public, never fond of Washington politicians as a class, is especially sick of them these days," writes Ponnuru. "It longs for leaders who are above the poisonous partisanship they see on TV. A one-term pledge would remind people that McCain has been such a leader."
But at the same time, conservatives like Ponnuru argue that McCain needs to pick a running mate who will reassure conservatives. Indeed, National Review has editorialized that delegates to the GOP convention should revolt if McCain picks a pro-choice or otherwise squishy veep candidate. "In picking a running mate Senator McCain will also be conferring front-runner status on a candidate for his party's future nomination. A selection that reassures wary conservatives will help to enthuse his supporters for the tough race he faces," opined my colleagues. Read article.
John Kerry: Is He Angling for Secretary of State?
NewsMax.com
The airplane came to a stop, the door opened and out popped Tony Blair. At the bottom of the stairs to greet the former British prime minister on Saturday was Sen. John Kerry, looking every part the diplomat.
Four years after a failed presidential bid and amid a race for a fifth Senate term this fall, Kerry's moves have prompted some questions:
_Is the Massachusetts Democrat positioning himself to be secretary of state in a potential Barack Obama administration?
_Could a Kerry appointment create not one but two Senate openings in Massachusetts, assuming Sen. Edward Kennedy cannot complete his term after being diagnosed last week with brain cancer? Read article.
