Five Sept. 11 Suspects to Face Trial in New York

The Obama administration has announced it will try 9-11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other 9-11 Gitmo detainees in a civilian federal court in New York, allowing them the protections of the U.S. Constitution even though they are not U.S. citizens.

Do you agree with this?

Exclusive: FSM’s Keep the Change™ Awards – March, 2009

How’s that hope and change coming? Find out as FamilySecurityMatters.org continues the new tradition of the Keep the Change™ Award, bestowed monthly on deserving recipients who, under the guise of “change,” are really undermining fundamental American values in one or more of the following categories:

·         National security
·         National sovereignty
·         Fiscal responsibility
·         Ethics in government
·         Education of children – the leaders of tomorrow
·         Limited government, as defined by our Founders
·         Tarnishing the Constitution

And now, the runners up for March:

SECOND RUNNER UP: The DNC, for hiring Shauna Daly after she’d had unprecedented access to Bush Administration documents at the White House. We were told that when the Democrats were in charge, the Republican “culture of corruption” would end and ethics would rule the day. Well, someone forgot to CC the Democrat National Committee on the memo:

After unprecedented access to Bush Administration documents, dirty trickster Shauna Daly has left the White House Counsel’s office to go to work for the Democratic National Committee.

Daly, 29, had no legal experience when hired to work for White House Counsel Greg Craig, but she had earned a reputation as a dirt-digger against Republican candidates. She formerly worked for the DNC as a dirty trickster.

According to Democrats, Daly’s short stay in the White House gave her unprecedented access to all sorts of documents from the Bush Administration – documents that can be used against Bush officials by Sen. Patrick Leahy and by Rep. John Conyers – who has long sought to impeach Bush and staffers over our nation’s war on Islamic terrorism.

The American Spectator reports that Daly had documents related to the firings of U.S. Attorneys, the use of the Patriot Act, FISA, and the Scooter Libby and Karl Rove investigations.

According to a DNC staffer: “She realized that she could do more with all the material she saw outside of the building than inside, where she'd be bound by the rules and legalities of the White House Counsel's Office. Now she isn't. She's good at what she does; her time at the White House means we've got a mother load of material that will have Republicans scrambling. At least that's what we hope.”

When it comes to political dirty tricks, no party is exempt from temptation. However, considering the acrimony that still exists among political opponents of the former Bush administration, this is an obvious example of abuse of power that should be addressed immediately.

Considering the disarray our government officials have been showing of late, however, don’t hold your breath waiting. We aren’t.

FIRST RUNNER UP: The media, for “forgetting” that Obama’s nominee for Assistant Attorney General was once lawyer to a terrorist. The media consider themselves watchdogs of government on behalf of the American people. Unfortunately, these watchdogs seem to have lost all of their teeth, and couldn’t keep drunk teenagers out of a junkyard, much less keep Americans informed on the news of the day. How else to explain this?

On March 9, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing on one of Barack Obama's latest nominees. This time it was to assess the suitability of Tony West, Obama's nominee for the assistant attorney general in charge of the U.S. Justice Department's Civil Division. Things went "smoothly" according to the San Jose Mercury News, also publishing a nice bio of West. The Washington Post merely mentioned the hearing was "notable." Similarly the East Bay Express simply makes mention of the hearing having occurred. Apparently there was nothing of interest in West’s nomination.

Curiously enough, though, not one of these brief reports mention[s] that Tony West was "American Taliban" terrorist John Walker Lindh's defense lawyer. Another key bit of info left out of these announcements was that Tony West raised $65 million for Obama's presidential campaign.

John Walker Lindh? The guy on the whiskey bottle? Oh wait, it’s all coming back to us now: the guy who pleaded guilty to aiding the Taliban and who received 20 years in prison for his crimes, and was unsuccessful in obtaining a pardon from that ol’ meany, George W. Bush.

We understand and agree with the fact that everyone accused of a crime in America is not only considered innocent until proven guilty, but everyone is also entitled to the best defense they can get. But nominating a convicted terrorist’s lawyer for assistant AG, a position in a government sector that is supposed to protect us? Is this proof that we indeed have won the War on Terror? Or does it come a distant second to nationalizing the American financial and business sectors?

Whatever the reason, we’re not only shaking our heads over the appointment, but we’re shaking our heads that the self-appointed flag-bearers of liberty are still too busy swooning over the election of Obama to give Americans the background information they need to truly stay informed.

AND THE WINNER OF THE MARCH KEEP THE CHANGE™ AWARD IS: The War on Terror is (allegedly) now an “overseas contingency operation,” Gitmo detainees are no longer “enemy combatants,” and terrorist acts are “man-made disasters.” A rose by any other name would be as sweet – but going from the bland “War on Terror” to an even blander “overseas contingency operation” is nothing short of a joke. What does the Obama administration hope to achieve by dumbing down the greatest national security issue of modern history? This is not moving back to a 9/10 mentality – it’s ignoring a threat that is still viable and, we believe, that is waiting for its chance to resurge. The UK has spent years bending over backwards to Islamic terrorists, and what do they get for their pains? That nation faces greater terrorist threats than ever before.

The Obama administration wants to take us down the same socialist road as many European nations. Are we to follow them down the primrose path of security denial as well?
