Five Sept. 11 Suspects to Face Trial in New York

The Obama administration has announced it will try 9-11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other 9-11 Gitmo detainees in a civilian federal court in New York, allowing them the protections of the U.S. Constitution even though they are not U.S. citizens.

Do you agree with this?

Climate bill offers (costly) non-solutions to problems that don't even exist

Jeremiah Wright Foreign Policy
Mark Hyman, Spectator.org

It is understandable that after sitting through 20 years of sermons delivered by the pastor Barack Obama considered his spiritual mentor that Jeremiah Wright's politics would heavily influence Obama's worldview of the U.S. and Israel.

Anyone familiar with the views of Barack Obama's pastor of twenty years might wonder if Reverend Jeremiah Wright is the chief inspiration behind the president's foreign policy. The president's overseas forays – dubbed the "American Apology Tour" – have featured Obama issuing one apology after another on behalf of a U.S. he has pronounced guilty of countless transgressions.

Obama has apologized for Guantanamo Bay; for alleged mistakes committed by the CIA; for U.S. policy in the Americas; for America's history of slavery; for "sacrificing [American] values;" for "hasty decisions" in the war on terror; for "America's standing in the world;" for American errors in foreign policy; for U.S. relations with the Muslim world; and for American "arrogance," being "dismissive, [and] even derisive" toward U.S. allies. One gets the sense Obama is far from finished.

Wright, too, found unlimited fault with America. For example, he opposed the great American melting pot. He denounced racial impurity particularly when white men and black women have offspring. "Black women were raped by the millions," Wright claimed in his 1996 book, When Black Men Sand Up for God. "Look around your church or neighborhood at the colors of African people today. America is the land of our trouble," he warned in his 1995 book Africans Who Shaped Our Faith.

Wright lectured his parishioners "When you forget who you are, you start letting your behavior be determined by the enemy's [white people's] expectations. How you act is based upon what they think. And that sickness is perpetuated, because through assimilation and acculturation, you now think just like they think." Wright admonished his congregants "If you are not European, stop pretending you are." Read article.

“And Iran, Iran So Far Away, I Couldn’t Get Away,” Sung by Obama
Doug Giles, Townhall.com

Obama said in his latest hem-hawing, foreign policy bloviating, what-the-hell-is-he-talkin’-about press conference that “we need to have a vigorous debate” regarding Iran’s current tyrannical Muslim-based governmental crushing of young people who desire a touch of freedom.

We need to debate? “We” who, BHO?

I’m guessin’ he is talking about American liberals and conservatives because—from what I can deduce from the YouTube vids—it appears as if the Iranian dissidents aren’t looking for lively banter with the death dealing, lying through coffee-stained teeth religious whack jobs who look like a group of angry, homeless Santa Clauses on crack.

A debate, Mr. O? Really?

FYI to the Whitehouse: Ayatollahs, mullahs, and Ahmadinejads don’t discuss stuff. They shoot you in the face. You don’t believe me? Well, then just ask Neda, a beautiful freedom-loving 26-year-old Iranian protester who lives in Tehran. What’s that? The Tehran terror cops, the Basij, shot her? See, I told you so. Uncut Islam doesn’t debate; it deals death to dissenters and, it seems, Mohammed is cool with that. Jesus isn’t okay with it, but Mohammed is.

Yes, El Presidente, you kind of need two intelligent parties that are able to chill in order to actually have a profitable discussion. Read article.

The Adolescent Angst of Barack Obama
Michael Barone, Townhall.com

There is a tendency for newly installed presidents, like adolescents suddenly liberated from adult supervision, to do the exact opposite of what their predecessors did. Presidents of both parties indulge in this behavior, though Democrats who campaign as candidates of hope and change are more likely to do so.

Some of this is a legitimate response to the political process: Voters tend to elect presidents who seem to possess qualities and views they thought lacking in their predecessors. But some of it, and especially in the case of Barack Obama, seems to come from an adolescent-like confidence that everything done by those who came before is (insert your own generation's expletive here).

We have seen this spectacularly in the dozen days since the June 12 Iranian election. Back in July 2007, Obama said that he would meet with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and other tyrants without preconditions. Grownup squares like George W. Bush wouldn't talk to these guys, so as the avatar of the generation of hope and change, Obama would. Obama figured he was cool enough to get the mullahs to agree to renounce nuclear weapons and all that hate stuff.

Obama has held to this ever since. Read article.

When did the lowbrows take over the culture?
James Lewis, American Thinker.com

Well, we have now voted in a President for the lowbrows. Yes, Obama himself is smart enough; even smart enough to say a few years ago that he didn't feel ready for the presidency. Well, now we can see why he said that. But legions of idiots voted for a man who was plainly unqualified, even by his own estimation, and surrounded by a bunch of malignant sociopaths like Wright and Ayers and all the rest.

How could he possibly win? Well, Obama cynically appealed to the idiots -- the young, the stupid, the naive, the silly, the rock idol worshippers, and probably the drug-addled masses, all the lowbrows in the land.

That includes the idiot savants of academia. Academics have a very narrow band of intelligence, something that satirists since Aristophanes have noticed and poked fun at. The first philosopher in Western history was Thales of Elea; Thales featured in Greek folklore as a man who walked around at night gazing at the stars only to fall into a ditch.

That's probably a folksy giggle at the absent-minded professor who is constantly bumping into walls. But there's a big element of truth in it. Academics can be incredibly ignorant and dumb outside of their small areas of expertise. Professors and media scribblers generally lack human smarts. They are sure suckers for all the con artists of the day.

Obama is a smooth-talking hustler who has specialized in charming academic liberals, like a smart graduate student who needs to impress his teachers with every word. They just dote on him, like a proud parent smiling on a favorite child. He's their dream, a black man who sounds so smart.

In his press conferences he hypnotizes all the ink-stained wretches of the media. It's a sight to behold. The man swats a fly and the suck-ups of the media go ga-ga with applause, and go back and write articles about it. That's not just a reflection on their (lack of) character and judgment. It's not just their childish immaturity. It's a reflection on their brains, or rather, on all that empty space between their ears. Our media stars are just not very bright. They're idiots. How to Stand Up To Iran
Morris & McGann, Vote.com

In our new book, Catastrophe, we spell out clearly how Obama has disarmed us in the war on terror and excoriate him for giving Hamas almost $1 billion in foreign aid funneled through the United Nations relief agency in Gaza that takes orders from Hamas. But now, the Administration's weakness in supporting human rights in Iran writes a sad chapter in the history of our foreign policy.

For her part, Hillary Clinton is really playing hardball with Iran! Faced with its outrageous conduct in killing its own citizens to cow them into silence, she has disinvited Iranian diplomats from the hot dog festival commemorating July 4th. That'll show 'em.

But, in Catastrophe, we propose stronger action. One specific step that could send just the right message to Iran is to cut back its gasoline supplies.   Despite having the world's second largest reserves of oil, Iran must import 40% of its gasoline because of a lack of refining capacity. Most of its refined gasoline comes from the Jamnagar Refinery, operated and owned by Reliance Industries, an Indian company. And guess who has guaranteed a $500 million loan to expand this refinery? You did. The American taxpayer, through the Export-Import Bank provided the loan guarantees as part of a $900 million package to Reliance.

We urge Congress to pass the Sherman-Kirk Amendment, which just cleared a House Appropriation s Subcommittee with bi-partisan support. The amendment, co-sponsored by Democratic Congressman Brad Sherman of California and Republican Mark Kirk of Illinois, would cutoff Export-Import bank financing for any firm that exports gasoline to Iran or helps it to develop new refining capacity. Barack Obama vs. International Law
Caroline B. Glick, JWR.com

True champions of law should demand the American president end his administration's contempt for the US's actual — rather than imaginary — legal obligations.

US President Barack Obama consistently couches his demand that Israel prohibit Jewish people from constructing or expanding our homes and communities in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria in legal-sounding language. Obama has called settlements "illegitimate." And he has said that Israel "has obligations under the road map," while referring disparagingly to "settlements that, in past agreements, have been categorized as illegal."

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Obama's Middle East envoy George Mitchell have repeatedly uttered similar statements.

By characterizing its demand that Israel prohibit Jews from building homes in Israel's capital city and its heartland as a legal requirement, the Obama administration portrays Israel as an international outlaw. After all, if building homes for Jews is a crime, and Israel is not prohibiting Jews from building homes, then Israel is at best guilty of enabling a crime to take place, and at worst, it is a criminal state. Why Iranian protests paralyze Obama
Mark Davis, Political Mavens.com

An Ahmedinejad ouster did not fit Khameini’s narrative, and now countless Iranians are dead or bloodied at his hands.

But there is another leader hesitant to see Ahmedinejad go: Barack Obama. A Mir Hossein Mousavi victory obliterates Obama’s dream of charming the pants off a proven lunatic, affirming that the sheer force of his personality can do more than his predecessor’s nasty war.

George W. Bush haunts and motivates Obama in another way, too. Obama knows full well that Iran sees neighboring Iraq poised to enjoy freedom and democracy, made possible by the war he tried tirelessly to derail.

A successful revolution in Iran would further cement the correctness of Bush’s vision, a nightmare to a narcissistic neophyte like Obama, sworn to prove not only that everything he does is supremely correct but that anyone who differs must be disgraced.

The protesters grow weary of Khameini’s bullets and beatings. They will soon give up. They thought America would help them in their bold attempt to stand up for democracy.

How foolish they were. Read article.

Lessons From a Past Protest
Suzanne Fields, JWR.com

The righteous rage in the streets of Tehran is familiar to Berliners. They recall their own demonstrations that doomed the hated Berlin Wall two decades ago. Berliners, hopeful and sympathetic, see lessons in their past for the demonstrators in the Iranian capital.

Films and photographs at exhibitions throughout the city document how "power to the people" can sometimes beat extraordinary odds. The exhibitions were planned long before the protests in Iran were a gleam in the eye of candle-carrying Iranians. Nobody here discounts the odds against the Iranian masses — the turmoil can lead to the results of November 1989 in Berlin or to the tragedy of Tiananmen Square.

President Obama heard similar appeals to timidity this week in Washington — he shouldn't risk antagonizing Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the mullahs in Tehran if he wants to parley with them. Like Reagan, the new president showed a little spunk at last, finally asserting solidarity with the demonstrators. There was none of the Kennedy bravado or Reagan dramatics, but it was nevertheless welcome.

The debate now focuses on the nature of Barack Obama's leadership as he faces his first crucial foreign policy crisis. Read article.

Liberals Don't Need No Stinking Principles!
Burt Prelutsky, Townhall.com

I often find myself thinking that if liberals didn’t have double standards, they wouldn’t have any standards at all.

Consider the uproar from the left when Don Imus opened his silly yap about the black women on the Rutgers basketball team. Now compare that to their response when David Letterman made his smarmy cracks about Sarah Palin and the governor’s 14-year-old daughter. The liberals immediately sprang to his defense, pointing out that Letterman is nothing more than a TV personality and is therefore free to make offensive jokes without fear of censure. So what do they think Don Imus is? The Secretary of State?

Or consider how choleric those on the left become any time that Dick Cheney defends the former administration. Well, if Obama and his cronies didn’t constantly attack Bush and Cheney and their policies, the chances are the ex-vice president wouldn’t feel compelled to set the record straight. Furthermore, Jimmy Carter never stopped bashing George Bush during the eight years he was the president, and yet nobody on the left ever suggested he shut up. On the contrary, he was hailed at the 2004 Democratic convention, and even had the honor of being seated next to the patron saint of left-wingers, Michael Moore. Read article.

Equality: Recipe for Tyranny
Erica Carle, NWV.com

EQUALITY is the denial of nature, the rallying cry of the willfully blind, the source of poetic inspiration for men without dreams; the ever-gushing source of tear-stained rhetoric for hypocritical politicians who seek power.

EQUALITY is morality for the morally bankrupt.

EQUALITY is the carrot and the stick – the sociologists’ goal for all who are not sociologists; and the sociologists’ justification for the whip to punish those who dare achieve beyond sociologically prescribed limits.

EQUALITY is the narrow room where sociologists cast all the world’s people, then crank the walls closer.

EQUALITY is death of spirit, choice denied. Read article.

President Obama rocking the Vineyard?
Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa, Boston Herald.com

White House officials - after initially denying reports that President Obama and family would vacation on Martha’s Vineyard this summer - now say they “have not confirmed any vacation plans at this time.”

You know what that means: Book those ferry reservations - because it is so on!

Word began circulating on the Rock months ago that the first family would spend two weeks at the end of August in the East Chop section of Oak Bluffs - an enclave where the black upper crust has vacationed for generations.

The Secret Service reportedly has scoped out a number of homes where the prez, Michelle and the girls, Sasha and Malia, might stay during their summer hols. If you believe the blather, the hotspots include the waterfront home owned by Ron Davenport, chairman of Pittsburgh-based Sheridan Broadcasting Corp ., the largest black-owned communications network in the United States. Obama attended a fund-raiser there last summer.

Also on the list, the Oak Bluffs home of Harvard Law professor - and Obama mentor - Charles Ogletree and his neighbor, Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett . Boston attorney - and former U.S. attorney - Wayne Budd, who also has a home in Oak Bluffs, has said that, despite reports to the contrary, the Obamas haven’t asked to bunk in with his fam - but they’re welcome.
