Senior Intelligence Officials: Attempted Terror Attack "Certain"

The five senior leaders of the U.S. intelligence community told a Senate panel they are "certain" that terrorists will attempt another attack on the United States in the next three to six months.
If true, why do you think the jihadists feel emboldened?

"Tolerance" and the "Other" American Muslim Tragedy
Austin Hill, Townhall.com

“... America and Islam are not exclusive and need not be in competition. Instead, they overlap, and share common principles -- principles of justice and progress; tolerance, and the dignity of all human beings...”

Those remarks were uttered by President Barack Obama on June 4th of this year. And I wish I could believe that they were accurate.

Obama was, of course, speaking at Cairo University, and making good on his campaign promise of “delivering a speech from the capitol of a Muslim nation.”

Yet, despite the immense power of Obama’s oratory skills (and his incredible confidence in his skills), he nonetheless appears to be merely human, and does not seem to possess the supernatural ability to “speak things into existence.”

Thus, Obama simply declaring that America and Islam “overlap,” and that Muslims and Americans share “common principles of justice and progress,” does not guarantee that this “sharing” and “overlapping” actually occur.

By now, the horrific profile of Army Major Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan is widely known. And despite President Obama insisting that we must not “jump to conclusions” about this American Muslim man, the picture is still horrifying: an American soldier who openly disagreed with the policies of two American Presidents (the “Hawk” George W. Bush and the “Dove” Barack Obama), who complained about deployments, and made “outlandish statements” against his nation and its government, was nonetheless allowed to rise through the ranks of the U.S. Army.

The obvious question – the “elephant in the living room,” to use a term from the world of family psychology – is “why was this kind of behavior tolerated and apparently overlooked?” And the only obvious answer, at least at this point, is simply “because he is a Muslim.” Read article.

Ministry of Fear
Lance Thompson, LowDownCentral.com

Barack Obama rode to the presidency on a tidal wave of campaign enthusiasm, famously promising Hope and Change. Instead, his administration has been governed by Fear and Loathing.

The arguments for Obama’s health care reform bill–ten pages shy of two thousand pages at last count–have all used fear. Twenty million Americans are without health insurance, we are told, then 32 million, then 47 million. If we don’t pass this massive, indecipherable bill, insurance will be unaffordable, you will go broke if you get sick, millions will die. Prescription drug companies, insurance companies, doctors and hospitals who question the grand prophecies of the bill’s proponents are told that if they protest this massive takeover of one sixth of the economy, they will be punished with retributive amendments and strangled by federal regulation.

The cap and trade bill was sold in the same way. If we don’t hobble our industries with restrictions and regulations, the Earth will grow warm, ice caps will melt, polar bears will starve, coastal cities will be inundated. Carbon dioxide, a gas all animals exhale, is now a toxic substance that must be regulated as well. We are all polluters, and we must literally be saved from ourselves.

The stimulus bill passed on fear and panic. If we don’t pump $800 billion into the economy within a week, the market will crash, millions will lose their jobs, your savings will vanish, your home will be foreclosed, you will be living in an appliance box under the freeway.

The Obama administration holds our allies in contempt. The administration loathes a free press. They like the mainstream media, as long as they are Obama-worshiping cheerleaders and not impartial referees. Read article.

Crushing the media: Left's global drive for control
Ralph Peters, NY Post.com

The Obama administration's un-American attempt to vilify Fox News only increased the network's popularity. But this White House debacle can't be judged in isolation: There's a global leftwing assault on the freedom of information.

Intense leftist sentiment in most of the international media isn't enough. Extremists seek total control.

The one thing leftists just can't bear is criticism. (Mass murder's fine, but don't stray from the party line.) As early as the French Revolution, the left grasped that a free press is inherently subversive to its doctrines.

The Obama administration's aborted Fox hunt simply aligned our government with the hounds of the global left. Our Constitution and common sense frustrated the White House apparatchiks -- but other leftist and radical regimes are crushing press freedoms, murdering dissenting journalists and turning the media into a state weapon.

In country after country where Obama's been tapping re-set buttons, the media are under assault:

* In Russia, journalists and human-rights bloggers continue to be murdered in cold blood by the agents of Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. Dozens of such assassinations have failed to lead to a single conviction -- in a police state where such killings are hardly spontaneous.

The parameters of what's permissible in the Russian media grow ever narrower. Propaganda's back in full force, and the body count rises. Obama looks away. Read article.

A Final Exam for Professor Obama
Dear Professor Obama:

From 1996 to 2004, you were a Senior Lecturer at the University of Chicago Law School where you taught Constitutional Law III. According to the university’s catalog, students learn ". . . the history, theory, and contemporary law of the post-Civil War Amendments to the Constitution, particularly the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment."

During the presidential campaign, you declared to your audience:
I was a constitutional law professor, which means unlike the current president I actually respect the Constitution.

The American people are comforted to know that you respect our Constitution, because no other document in the history of the world has given more hope, freedom, and opportunity to mankind. We must honor, preserve, and protect every word of this precious document if we are to continue to be a nation of laws, and a beacon of freedom in the world.

You also agreed to honor our Constitution when you repeated the Presidential Oath of Office, saying:
I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

What more could we as Americans ask of you? Read article.

Who's Pulling Obama's Strings?
Liz Peek, FoxNews.com

Is a new narrative starting to build? Is David Axelrod beginning to emerge as Geppetto to President Obama’s Pinocchio?

Obama fans are in a tight spot. As the White House turns ever harsher and more divisive, supporters are scrambling to explain why President Obama sounds so very different from Campaigner Obama. There are two possible explanations, neither of which is flattering. The first is that Obama was insincere on the campaign trail. The second is that his advisors – David Axelrod and Rahm Emanuel -- are in control. The latter view is bound to take hold and it will not boost the president’s flagging popularity ratings.

Many who voted for President Obama feel deceived. When he said in Florida last year “we cannot afford the same political games and tactics that are being used to pit us against one another,” people believed him. When he extolled “rejecting fear and division for unity of purpose,” people believed him. When he said on election night “I will listen to you, especially when we disagree,” people believed him.

Why has the president left those admirable promises behind? Why is his administration going after Fox News, the Chamber of Commerce, insurance executives, AIG management, the drug industry, the Chrysler bondholders and any and all who oppose his policies? Read article.

OMB director warns growing deficit a threat to American economy
Walter Alarkon, The Hill.com

White House Budget Director Peter Orszag warned Tuesday that large federal deficits will eventually imperil the U.S. economy because they will lead to higher interest rates and more borrowing from overseas.

Orszag, in a speech in New York, said that deficits, expected to add $9 trillion to the current national debt of $12 trillion over the next decade, are "serious and ultimately unsustainable."

Orszag said that deficit spending was necessary to help boost the economy when unemployment is hovering around 10 percent. But he said that red ink must be stopped as the economy recovers. During a recovery, private investment will again pick up and compete with the federal government for capital.

"It is at this point that we are likely to observe a rise in interest rates, an increase in borrowing from abroad, or some combination thereof due to the deficits," Orszag said. "And it is at that point that deficits will be putting the health of our economy in jeopardy rather than helping to mitigate the most severe economic downturn in more than 50 years, as they are now." The Biggest Ponzi Scheme Ever — A Fact Check on Medicare
Michael Arnold Glueck, JWR.com

Some say Medicare is immensely popular and has very low administrative costs. Therefore why not just have Medicare for all?

First, since fact checks are currently in vogue (only against the right), let's do a fact check on Medicare:

IT IS STRUCTURED AS A PONZI SCHEME. Maybe we should call it a Madoff scheme?

MEDICARE TAXES IMPOSE UNCOUNTED COSTS. Among the hidden costs of government programs is the deadweight cost of taxation. The taxes that finance the Medicare program impose costs on society in the range of 30% of total Medicare spending (Michael Tanner, Cato Policy Analysis #642; Aug 6, 2009).

One of the solutions proposed by ObamaCare is to cut Medicare funding by 500 billion dollars. How do you take that much money from a program that is already broke? There are currently 44 million Medicare recipients. Do the math and this amounts to slashing roughly $11,400 from each Medicare patient over ten years. This tidy sum is equal to the cost of caring for one senior for one year. What year of your remaining life would you like that to be?

So if you like the risk of Ponzi schemes you will love investing in "The Obama-NonCare Plan." Read article.

'Present' Vote Won't Create Border Order
Victor Davis Hanson, Investors.com

Polls of all sorts reveal consistently that the public believes illegal immigration is a serious problem and that government is not doing enough to stop it.
Apparently a hesitant Obama hopes that the crisis over illegal immigration will just go away on its own — despite his now-forgotten April vow to enact "comprehensive immigration reform."

The economic slowdown, together with beefed-up security and the border wall, has cut down the number of illegal entries to the lowest in recent years.
Privately, Obama must be happy that the pool of illegal aliens is shrinking, allowing the formable forces of American assimilation to work on smaller, more integrated populations, without politically charged talk about amnesty and deportation.
Publicly, he can lament to his Hispanic base that Bush, not he, was responsible for the wall and increased security.

In other words — like his positions on the need for more troops in Afghanistan and the nuclear crisis with Iran — Obama is voting "present" on illegal immigration.

Obama Appointee Is An Ignoramus
Bruce Kesler, Maggie's Farm.com

President Obama’s appointee, Rocco Landesman, as Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) is an ignoramus, whose own words keep reaffirming his lackyism and lack of knowledge. One might not think him unqualified by reading his official NEA bio: Yale PhD in Dramatic Literature, Yale assistant professor, president of a company that owns five major NYC theaters, successful Broadway show producer, board membership on several prestigious arts foundations. But, that impressive background has not stopped him from saying some outrageously idiotic and incorrect things in excess praise of President Obama’s purported literary skills.

Those of us concerned about the politicization of the cultural agencies and intrigued by the phenomenon of Obama worship will continue to find Rocco of interest.”

Remember, this is the NEA that a few weeks ago was caught trying to elicit pro-Obama propaganda from its grants beneficiaries. Now, the trail back to the White House is being exposed.

A couple I’m friendly with teach drama at a prestigious university. They are politically quite liberal, supporters of President Obama. Both are quite knowledgeable about literature and the arts, a pleasure to discuss these topics with, and also very well versed in political and other topics. Either would have made a superior appointee to Landesman.
So, why weren’t they? Simple. They are not rich and highly connected contributors to President Obama. Read article.
