You Can’t Make This Stuff Up!

Whenever you think general incompetence by those who purport to serve by the consent of the governed can’t get any worse, think again:
“Public Funds to Help Pay for Defense of Alleged Soldier Killer” (KATV.com, 1/11/10)
Little Rock - A judge orders taxpayer dollars to subsidize defense costs for the man accused of a shooting outside an army recruiting center last June.
At a pre-trial hearing Monday, Judge Wright ordered the Public Defender Commission to pay reasonable fees for private specialists, medical experts and other services in Abdulhakim Muhammad's case even though he is being represented by a private attorney. Muhammad will continue to pay his attorney's basic fee, but critics are concerned this will set a precedent for later cases. Sources say an appeal of this ruling is already expected.
Muhammad faces capital murder and attempted capital murder charges in the June 1, 2009, shooting.

Meanwhile, one of the Navy SEALs accused of mistreating “Ahmed Hashim Abed, a top al Qaeda leader during a nighttime raid in September… the suspected mastermind of a 2004 ambush who killed four Blackwater security contractors – including a former SEAL – in Fallujah, Iraq,” will have his court martial in Iraq because prosecutors won’t bring his accuser to Norfolk, Virginia for trial. And 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed will be tried in New York City, with all the rights of an American citizen at his disposal.
Like the title says, you can’t make this stuff up.
“Formal inquiry sought in polling case” (Washington Times, 1/12/09)
A senior House Republican plans Wednesday to introduce a "resolution of inquiry" calling on the House Judiciary Committee to formally ask Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. to explain why the Justice Department dismissed a civil complaint against the New Black Panther Party after party members disrupted a Philadelphia polling place in last year's elections.
The resolution is being sought by Rep. Frank R. Wolf, Virginia Republican, after what he described as six failed attempts to get information from the Justice Department on why the complaint was dropped.
"This case was inexplicably dismissed earlier this year — over the ardent objections of the career attorneys overseeing the case as well as the department's own appeal office," he said. "I regret that Congress must resort to oversight resolutions as a means to receive information about the dismissal of this case, but the Congress and the American people have a right to know why this case was not prosecuted."
Mr. Wolf, a senior member of the House Appropriations Committee, also inserted language into the Justice Department's annual spending bill requiring that its Office of Professional Responsibility (OPR) turn over to the committee the results of an investigation announced in August into the New Black Panther Party case.
His resolution directs Mr. Holder to provide Congress with "all information" relating to the decision to dismiss the case. The committee must hold a straight yes-or-no vote on the resolution.
"Time and again over the last year, the department has denied any effort to learn about the decision to dismiss this case," Mr. Wolf said, adding that he first requested assistance in obtaining the information two months ago, but Rep. John Conyers Jr., Michigan Democrat and Judiciary chairman, has yet to act.
"This House must not turn a blind eye to the attorney general's obstruction … It is imperative that we protect the right of all Americans to vote — the sacrosanct and inalienable right of any democracy," he said.

Can you imagine the outcry if a white supremacist group had disrupted polling in a black neighborhood and a civil complaint was dismissed? We can’t either. Equality before the law.
“Obama’s TSA Nominee Worries About Those Who Are ‘Christian Identity Oriented’” (ARRA News Service, 1/11/10)
We can’t remember either. And we’re not sure where Mr. Southers gets his news, but it certainly isn’t from FSM.

"When’s the last time you heard about a white supremacist group shooting American soldiers in cold blood or plotting to blow up JFK International Airport or take down the Sears Tower?"
Timothy McVeigh wore white power T-shirts and bombed the federal building in OK City.
Two white supremacists plotted to kill then-candidate Obama in October 2008, along with students at a predominantly African-American high school.
I could go on and on, too.
Extremism is bad, period. And juxtaposing black supremacism with white supremacism in a way that constitutes a soft apologetic for the latter is nothing short of repugnant.
