This week contrasts MLK and BHO
Editorial, The Morning Journal.com
This week begins with Lorain County celebrating the life of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. on Monday, and it closes with a visit by President Barack Hussein Obama on Friday.
This conjunction of the nation's great civil rights leader and its first black president prompts reflection on a question of whether MLK would approve of what BHO is doing with his historic presidency, or not.

Obama, Democrats Put Politics Above Educating D.C.’s Disadvantaged Youth, Black Leaders Say
Penny Starr, CNS News.com
Black leaders say that President Obama, Education Secretary Arne Duncan, and Congress have put politics ahead of helping low-income children in the District of Columbia by refusing to support a program that allows 1,700 children to go to a private school, including the school Obama’s two daughters attend.
Congress did not reauthorize funding for the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship Program (OSP) in the 2010-11 federal budget, ending a program that has helped thousands of disadvantaged children attend some of the best schools in the nation’s capitol since its inception in 2004.
And while Obama backed Congress’ move to continue funding scholarships for children already in the program until they graduate from high school, no new children will receive the $7,500 annual tuition scholarship.

Obama Must Know His Spending Yields Bankruptcy, Not Growth
David Limbaugh, Townhall.com
Could we all agree that we are doomed as a nation if President Barack Obama continues his deficit spending at unprecedented levels? Can you think of any reason, then, to justify this spending? Oh, our president says it's to jump-start the economy? Sorry, that dog won't hunt. So what's his real motive?
Obama has been saying from the beginning that his stimulus plan was for the purpose of spurring economic growth -- though when we did have economic growth during the George W. Bush administration, the likes of which Democrats can only fantasize about during Obama's term, they trashed it as a "jobless recovery."
On Jan. 16, 2009 -- about a year ago -- Obama said: "The first job of my administration is to put people back to work and get our economy moving again. That's why I've moved quickly to work with my economic team and leaders of both parties on an 'American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan' that will immediately jump-start job creation and long-term growth." Obama made similar statements repeatedly.
Notice he said "immediately." Here we are a year later at 10 percent unemployment after Obama promised it wouldn't exceed 8 percent. Is anyone holding him accountable for this outrage? Is he humbled? No, he wants a second stimulus, on top of his nationally bankrupting health care and cap-and-trade plans.

The Top 10 Quotes From Barack Obama in 2009
John Hawkins, Townhall.com
When Barack Obama was on the campaign trail, he promised Americans hope, change, and unity. Whatever else may be said about the man, you at least have to give him credit for delivering on all counts.
After all, as the year has progressed, more and more Americans have united against his agenda. As for the change, well, just look at the unemployment rate, the economy, and the national debt. We've seen quite a bit of change in those areas under Obama's watch.
Then of course, there's the prevalence of the word "hope" when people talk about our President. "Gosh, I really hope he knows what he's doing. I hope Obama's weakness doesn't encourage the terrorists. I hope we can undo all the damage Obama is doing to the country right now. I hope our children will forgive us one day for electing this guy."
So, since we're in the midst of such a historic presidency, it behooves us to actually catalogue some of the more notable utterances of our esteemed President in 2009. Enjoy!

Obama's Planned Withdrawals Recruit Jihadists
Judith Klinghoffer, Political Mavens.com
Obama’s election and the promise of an American retreat from Iraq and Afghanistan is in part responsible for the marked rise in Al Qaeda efforts to attack the American homeland. Why? because it removed the single negative consequence of 9/11 as far as Jihadists are concerned, the insertion of infidel armies into two additional Muslim territories. The rest of the consequences of 9/11 are considered positive. America and the West incurred significant economic losses while the visibility and marked deference to Islam has increased geometrically.
Not only has the rise of Jihadism not made Islam illegitimate but it made it more legitimate. There was no celebrations of Muslim religious holidays at the White House before 9/11, there are such celebrations after 9/11. From the very beginning the West led by the Bush administration has done its utmost to shelter moderate Muslims from the consequences of Jihadist actions. That was appeasement 101. The rantings of Jihadists were carefully studied and active efforts were made to address their supposed grievances, or as sophisticated Obama calls them, “recruitment tools.”

'Negro dialect' forgivable for Democrats, fatal for Republicans
Monica Crowley, WashingtonTimes.com
During the 2008 presidential campaign, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid marveled at the electability of Barack Obama because, unlike previous black candidates, Mr. Obama was "light-skinned" and lacked a "Negro dialect." In other words, he wasn't "too black." He was more Carlton Banks than Suge Knight.
A few thoughts on the ensuing uproar over this insult to all Americans:
No more "My bads." After the Christmas terror attack, Mr. Obama took "responsibility" for the security failures that had led to the near-slaughter of 300 people over Detroit. He was roundly applauded for saying nothing more than "My bad"; he then suffered no punitive consequences. On Monday, Mr. Reid took a page from Mr. Obama's playbook and "apologized" for a poor "choice of words." Nothing to see here, folks; move along.
Generally speaking, when Democrats commit whoppers, they get away with it. When Republicans commit whoppers, the "My bad" routine isn't enough, and they're expected to step down. For Republicans, accepting responsibility means accepting punishment; for Democrats, it means only an admission of error and a suggestion they'll do better in the future. This double standard must end.

It's Time to Play Ball
Lauri B. Regan, American Thinker.com
In discussing the Obama administration's failure to act on the "bits of information that were available" to prevent the Christmas Day terrorist from boarding the flight to Detroit, National Security Adviser James Jones stated that "[t]hat's two strikes ... [Obama] certainly doesn't want that third strike, and neither does anybody else."
There's nothing like stating the obvious...unless you're a terrorist, in which case you not only want that third strike, but you also realize that your opponent isn't even in the game.
And while the Obama White House is slowly waking up to the fact that this country is involved in a war on terror, Jones' declaration is far from comforting. What would be reassuring would be some sort of indication that the administration is discarding its Muslim outreach experiment and replacing it with a commonsense approach to beat radical Islam.
To date, the terrorists are outsmarting us. They know that the president is concerned more with political correctness than with protecting Americans.

No Shock: Stimulus Is A Money Loser
Investors.com
The results are in, and last year's $787 billion stimulus not only failed to do what it was supposed to do, but it has also turned out to be one of the worst investments in economic history.
Remember the debate in 2008 over the bailouts then being put together by the Treasury, the Fed and the Democratic Congress? Proponents often raised the possibility that any bailout would make money for taxpayers.
Didn't work that way. As we've discovered, the American people aren't just saddled with the ongoing costs of the various and sundry stimulus programs. They're also taking huge losses in doing so.
On Tuesday, the Treasury estimated that taxpayers had lost $68.5 billion in the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2009, on the Troubled Asset Relief Program and that the losses could go as high as $120 billion.
That isn't imaginary cash stuffed under some government cushion. It's a tax on you that comes straight out of your pocket. It's money that won't be used to fund private-sector jobs or pay for a child's education or a new house. It's gone.
