Exclusive: You Can’t Make This Stuff Up! (2/12/10)

Whenever you think general incompetence by those who purport to serve by the consent of the governed can’t get any worse, think again:

“Don't Let Iran On The Human Rights Council” (Claudia Rosett, 2/11/10)

While Iran's regime bloodies its dissidents, the nuclear weapons-loving mullahs are seeking a treat for themselves at the United Nations: Iran is running for a seat on the U.N. Human Rights Council.

Utterly perverse though it would be, Iran might snag that prize. The 47 seats on the Geneva-based Human Rights Council are parceled out among regional groups of U.N. member states. This year the Asian bloc has four seats opening up. Five contenders have stepped forward: Malaysia, Maldives, Qatar, Thailand--and Iran. The winners will be chosen in May, by secret ballot of the 192-member U.N. General Assembly – a notoriously thug-friendly body, run this year by a former foreign minister of Libya.

The Human Rights Council is, in theory, the U.N.'s leading body dedicated to protecting human rights and condemning their abusers. If Iran's government wins a seat on this council, it would send a horrifying message to Iranian dissidents. They have been enduring mass arrests, beatings and murders in their quest for genuine human rights inside Iran.

This brand of U.N. legitimacy for Iran would compound the farce of U.N. sanctions, which have so far failed to stop Iran's nuclear ventures. It would be more evidence that President Barack Obama was mistaken when he claimed that Iran was becoming "more isolated."

If this doesn’t illustrate the corrupt inanity that is the UN, nothing else does.

“Could chicken manure help curb climate change?” (USA Today, 2/10/10)

Techniques such as biochar may represent the best compromise between what's good for the environment, and what's affordable during the recession, says Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., who visited Frye's farm in August. As political support in Washington fades for more expensive pollution-fighting measures, such relatively cheap green technology may represent the immediate future of the environmental movement, analysts say.

The strategies range from the simple, such as putting carbon dioxide filters on top of smokestacks, to the controversial, such as a recent United Nations proposal to give out more free condoms — which would in turn slow population growth, leading to fewer greenhouse gas emissions that are causing the planet to warm, the U.N. says.

Is anyone still actually paying attention to what the UN has to say about “climate change” after its fraud was exposed? We don’t know about you, but we’re too busy shivering to care about the usefulness of chicken manure to cure the common cold, let alone “global warming.”

“Illegal Hiring Campaign in Civil Rights Division” (Muffled Oar, 2/5/10)

Civil Rights Assistant Attorney General Loretta King explicitly ordered Justice Department hiring committees to disregard any applicant resume that did not include experience working for a liberal civil rights organization, the Muffled Oar has learned. This order was effectively an illegal litmus test to ensure that only partisan liberals were hired by the Justice Department. The order to throw out resumes by the then-acting political head of the Civil Rights Division appears to be an illegal act of political and ideological favoritism. The order by Loretta King comes at the same time the Civil Rights Division embarks on a campaign to hire large numbers of committed leftist ideologues, through facially nonpartisan but plainly pretextually partisan methods. These improper hiring tactics mirror the allegations of improper hiring which plagued the Bush Civil Rights Division and was the focus of a report by the Inspector General and multiple Congressional hearings.

The outrageousness of this situation speaks for itself.
