Exclusive: You Can’t Make This Stuff Up – The Judicial Nominee Edition

By now, you’ve likely heard about the nomination of Scott M. Matheson, Jr. to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit. Judge Matheson is, according to the White House press release, “a distinguished candidate for the Tenth Circuit court,” whose “legal and academic credentials are impressive and his commitment to judicial integrity is unwavering.”

On the face of it, it sounds like a routine judicial nomination. No big deal, right?

Problem is, Matheson’s brother is Rep. Jim Matheson of Utah, who voted “no” on government health care. Rep. Matheson is also one of 10 legislators who voted “no” who was invited to the White House last night.

Is this an innocent coincidence? Considering the recent scandals that include the “Cornhusker Kickback” and the “Second Louisiana Purchase,” it’s easy to be skeptical.

The White House is denying any “quid pro quo” in the Matheson judicial nomination, citing an impressive ABA rating and support by one of Utah’s senators. Yet interestingly enough, Big Government claims that Judge Matheson “is hurdling a few career steps to become a judge.”

Appearances are just as important as true intentions, especially when important legislation that is literally on everyone’s lips is on the line. Even the appearance of impropriety, even if there really is no impropriety, can be damaging to the brand. Naturally, we expect our elected officials in government to be honest and aboveboard in all of their dealings with the business of the American people.

Americans were promised by politicians twice within the past few years that “transparency” and “ethics” would be the order of the day in government. Unfortunately, the difference between promises and the returns on those promises can be as different as night and day, as we are discovering daily.

Ronald Reagan once said that; "Politics is often referred to as the second oldest profession. I've found that it bears a remarkable resemblance to the first."
A further quote from Harry Truman; "I had to choose between being President of the U.S., or being a piano player in a house of prostitution. I've discovered there's not much difference."
I think those two men were on to something.
So, why are we surprised when the Big O and the rest of his cohorts sell themselves to the highest bidder?

I just hope this isn't another scam the democrats are pulling. We the American people can't stand another scandle. I think it is time for American's to stop paying income taxes, until congress can get it's act together and start over!
