Vin's Notes on Islamism: Part Four

Synopsis For Week Ending 20th March 2011
My Two Cents:
It was nothing short of embarrassing to watch Bill Maher talking to Rep Keith Ellison about verses in the Koran. Clearly, poor Bill knew nothing of the Koran, Hadith or the two gems known as ‘abrogation’ and ‘taqiyya’. I saw a similar interview between Pamela Geller and an Imam and, lo and behold, the Imam and Ellison used the same abrogated verse.
The standard rebuttal for someone that knows the subject should be, ‘you are a Muslim right and you do know the Koran?’
‘Yes, I am, of course I know the Koran’.
‘You quoted an abrogated verse to me, so you are either lying or are you ignorant of the contents of the book?’
Given the mass of contradictory texts within the Koran a rule of abrogation was developed. This rule states that wherever contradictions are found, the later-dated text abrogates the earlier one. To elucidate further the original intention of Mohammed, they referred to traditions (Hadith) recording what he himself had said and done.
Sadly for the rest of the world, both of these methods led Islam away from peace and towards war. For the peaceable verses of the Koran are almost all earlier, dating from Mohammed’s time in Mecca, while those which advocate war and violence are almost all later, dating from after his flight to Medina.
Muslims can open the Koran and quote a peaceful verse using the Islamic tradition known as Taqiyya, lying that is sanctioned in the Koran.
Here is a classic example of abrogation and the one that Ellison and the Imam used:
Earlier Verse:
[2:256] there shall be no compulsion in religion: the right way is now distinct from the wrong way. Anyone who denounces the devil and believes in GOD has grasped the strongest bond; one that never breaks. GOD is Hearer, Omniscient.
Later verse:
Qur'an (4:89) - "They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until they flee in the way of Allah (From what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them."
Related Verses:
8.12 "Remember thy lord has inspired the angels with the message. Give firmness to the believers and instill terror into the hearts of the unbelievers. Smite them above their necks and smite the fingertips of them."
9.5 "When the sacred months have passed, kill the idolaters wherever you find them."
47.4 "When you encounter the unbelievers, Strike off their heads. Until you have made a wide slaughter among them tie up the remaining captives."
The verses above are a very small example of the hate towards unbelievers found in the Koran.
Taqiyya literally means: "Concealing, precaution, is guarding.” It is employed in disguising one's beliefs, intentions, convictions, ideas, feelings, opinions or strategies. In practical terms it is manifested as dissimulation, lying, deceiving, vexing and confounding with the intention of deflecting attention, foiling or pre-emptive blocking. It is currently employed in fending off and neutralizing any criticism of Islam or Muslims.
This is in total contradiction to the teachings of Christianity, noted by ‘Thou shalt not bear false witness’. The truth can also be said about a lot of the verses in Islam. They deny the crucifixion of Christ, the Blessed Trinity, the denial of Christ being the last prophet and many more.
