Vin's Notes on Islamism: Part Ten

by VIN IENCO May 4, 2011

The Deafening Silence regarding Islamic Slavery

In the state of South Kordofan, Sudan, are the Nuba Mountains. A tenuous cease fire exists and tensions are high as the armed militias roam the mountains and oil fields freely. This area saw some of the most brutal Darfur-style violence and the fear of the people is that they would again be plunged into war. The ominous presence of armed forces and militia and the resultant intimidation has increased fears over the little-known elections being held this Monday.

For years this area has relied heavily on its southern allies to protect its interests. When the south succeeds from the north in two months, the people of the Nuba Mountains will be left behind in this Muslim-dominated north.

On March 23, this year, A Boston Rabbi named Joseph Polak, traveled to Southern Sudan to witness the emancipation of almost 200 slaves. His mission was to give them the understanding of how the Jewish people remember their own freedom from bondage from the Egyptians and how that freedom is celebrated today.

On February 7th this year, thousands of Southern Sudanese sat transfixed to a bank of TV screens set up in the main square of the southern capital Juba. Their dreams had finally been realized. Africa’s longest civil war, that spanned almost 3 decades and saw almost 2 million people killed and 4 million displaced, had come down to this day. This was the day when the Christian south, with a vote of almost 99 percent, elected to succeed from the Sunni Muslim North.

The announcement bought jubilation and people danced and sang in the streets, they waved flags and they wept for joy. The official recognition of the new Sovereign state of Southern Sudan, comes on July 1st 2011. "Southern Sudanese are a new people now. We have a new identity. We have respect from everyone at last. Our country has come today," said Rebecca Maluk, a war widow and mother-of-three in the crowd in Juba.

On the 22nd of June, 1772, Lord Mansfield, The Chief Justice of the King's Bench of Britain, abolished slavery in the United Kingdom in the Somersett Case. He stated that ‘neither the common law of England nor any law made by Parliament recognized the existence of slavery, and slavery was therefore illegal’. It wasn’t until the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833, some 61 years later, that this ban extended to British subjects outside of the United Kingdom.

The first English colony established in North America in Jamestown, Virginia, received its first slaves in 1619. Out of a blustering storm, an unnamed Dutch ship arrived, carrying about 30 Africans. The captives were seized from a Portuguese ship and traded in Virginia for food and supplies. The Spanish colonies of North America had established a slave trade as early as 1560 and had now begun the expansion into English North America.

In the 1860 Presidential election, the Democrats of the south fully endorsed slavery and the northern Democrats said that it was an issue for each state to address locally. Republican Abraham Lincoln won with both the popular vote and with the majority of electoral votes. As early as 1861, Lincoln looked at abolishing slavery. With the Civil War and the unity of the nation at stake, Lincoln finally announced the Emancipation Declaration of January 1st 1863. The Union allied states did not recognize Lincoln as President and it took until the spring of 1865 and the surrender of the Confederacy, to see slavery abolished nationwide.

Muslims are instructed to live their lives in the way that Mohammed did. He was both a slave trader and a slave owner. There are several accounts of Mohammed capturing slaves and having sex with them and he had even encouraged his cohorts to do the same. As the Koran is the ultimate authority for Muslims worldwide, Mohammed made sure the adherents of Islam know, not only is slavery not condemned, but it is almost insisted upon. Here is a small sample of such ‘holy verse’:

Koran (33:50) - "O Prophet! We have made lawful to thee thy wives to whom thou hast paid their dowers; and those (slaves) whom thy right hand possesses out of the prisoners of war whom Allah has assigned to thee". Mohammed made sure that this gem allowed him virtually unlimited sex.

Koran (8:69) "But (now) enjoy what ye took in war, lawful and good: but fear Allah: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful”. Enjoy your war booty, your spoils of war. Slaves are included as war booty.

Volume 7, Book 62, Number 137, narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: We got female captives in the war booty and we used to do coitus interruptus with them. So we asked Allah's Apostle about it and he said, "Do you really do that?" repeating the question thrice, "There is no soul that is destined to exist but will come into existence, till the Day of Resurrection."

Volume 3, Book 34, Number 351, narrated Jabir bin Abdullah: A man decided that a slave of his would be manumitted after his death and later on he was in need of money, so the Prophet took the slave and said, "Who will buy this slave from me?" Nu'aim bin 'Abdullah bought him for such and such price and the Prophet gave him the slave.

Here, Senegalese Philosopher Tidiane N´Diaye gives insight into the Islamic slave trade:

Slavery in Sudan in the 21st Century. Slavery as tools of ethnic cleansing and genocide:

Slavery in Islam is the longest in history, spanning over 13 centuries and it still exists today, in 2011. Not just in the Sudan, but all across Africa, slaves are exported and traded by Muslims in Africa, the Middle East and the Persian Gulf. Children as young as 5 years old are kidnapped and sold for as little as 20 dollars. They are trafficked into prostitution, or to work as domestic help or cheap labor. Some figures estimate that as many as 18 million people worldwide are still enslaved today.

Ibn Khaldun, a 14th century Muslim Scholar, scientist and philosopher wrote: "the Black nations are, as a rule, submissive to slavery, because (blacks) have little that is (essentially) human and possess attributes that are quite similar to those of dumb animals..."

There will be no NATO intervention for the herdsmen of Chad, no condemnation of the sex slave trade in Mali by Obama. The EU will not speak out for the 600,000 Mauritanians in bonded labor. What will we hear from Gillard, Cameron, Ki Moon, Merkel and the rest? Nothing, the silence is deafening.
